摘要: Polycarbonate compositions incorporating long chain alkylphenol endgroups, for example cardanol, show enhanced pit replication characteristics when molded into optical disks. The enhancement in molding performance is especially pronounced at the shortest mold cycle times tested. Thus, a blend of 75 parts by weight bisphenol A polycarbonate 92 percent encapped with phenol, and 25 parts by weight bisphenol A polycarbonate about 100 percent endcapped with cardanol showed enhanced pit replication performance in optical disk molding trials relative to the same bisphenol A polycarbonate alone and analogous blends utilizing short chain alkylphenols.

摘要: Various embodiments of polymer fibers comprising a high heat polymer and process for making the polymer fibers are provided. In one embodiment, synthetic polymer fibers comprise polyetherimide polymer that is substantially free of foreign particulate matter greater than about 100 microns in size. A process for producing polymer fiber includes melting polymer comprising polyetherimide to a melt temperature that ranges from about 180-500° C. to form a molten polymer; passing the polyetherimide that is substantially free of foreign particulate matter above about 100 microns in size, through a spinneret comprising a plurality of hole openings to produce a fiber bundle; and cooling the fiber bundle with a cooling medium having a temperature that ranges from about 0° C. to about 80° C.

摘要: The invention relates to substantially single phase silicone copolycarbonates suitable for use in optical articles such as digital versatile disks. The silicone copolycarbonates contain residues of silicone containing and nonsilicone containing bisphenols and have properties particularly suited for use in high density optical data storage media. The invention further relates to the preparation and properties of substantially single phase silicone copolycarbonates having either a blocky or a random structure. The structure of the compositions of the invention is determined by the method of preparation used and may be used to control physical properties.

摘要: This disclosure relates to a data storage medium, and in particular to a data storage medium comprising at least one high modulus layer. In one embodiment, an asymmetric optical storage medium can comprise: a substrate layer comprising polyarylene ether, a high modulus layer comprising a thermoset, and a data layer disposed between the modulus layer and the substrate layer. The high modulus layer has a tensile modulus that is greater than a substrate layer tensile modulus. In another embodiment, an asymmetric optical storage medium can comprise: a substrate layer comprising polyarylene ether and having surface features and a high modulus layer disposed on the side of the substrate comprising the surface features. The surface features can comprise pits. The high modulus layer can comprise a thermoset, and can have a tensile modulus that is greater than a substrate layer tensile modulus.
