Abstract: An auxiliary heating/cooling system controller is connected in series between the household thermostat and the furnace burner valve and compressor. The controller includes a timing control which is responsive to a preset time interval valve and the plenum temperature to cycle the furnace burner on and off in order to moderate the temperature of the furnace heat exchanger, thus improving furnace efficiency. Upon installation the controller is programmed with a digital valve corresponding to the delay between a call for heat from the household thermostat and the initiation of the furnace fan. This value is then used to set a timer in the controller which synchronizes the initiation of the duty cycle control of the burner to the start of the fan at the beginning of a heating cycle, and to control the cycle time of the burner. A plenum thermostat monitors the temperature of the air produced by the furnace and if the air exceeds a predetermined limit the OFF time of the burner is increased. The cooling system control provides for cycling the compressor on and off in accordance with a programmed digital valve. The fan is kept activated to circulate dry, cool air when the compressor is in the off time of its cycle.

Abstract: An underground duct is connected to other ductwork and controls associated with a building for automatically selectively passing outdoor air through the underground duct to the normally outdoor coils of a heat pump, recirculating air through the underground duct to the heat pump outdoor coils and back through the underground duct, and passing outdoor air directly to the heat pump outdoor coils and also passing outdoor air through the underground duct to recondition it, in order to achieve optimum heat pump efficiency for selectively heating and cooling the building. Alternatively, air from the underground duct or from outdoors is selectively passed directly into the building for optimum cooling thereof while a dehumidifier is used to remove latent heat from the air; and other heat sources may be used with direct recirculation of air through the building and addition of a portion of tempered air from the underground duct for slightly pressurizing the building interior with heated air.

Abstract: A floor mounted de-watering spin chamber is connected with a kitchen disposer-grinder for de-watering and collecting ground food scraps that are suitable for garden composts. The spin chamber contains a perforated rotary spin basket and has a rigid lid with a rigid inlet tube insertable in a rigid body so that only one latch is necessary to hold the lid securely on the spin chamber. A diverter valve operated by a manual knob controls the discharge of water and solid material from the disposer-grinder selectively through the spin chamber or a drainpipe and the knob also controls a switch for an electric motor driving the spin basket. The drain pipe may also receive water and solid material from a second sink which is not equipped with a disposer-grinder and which material is not treated by the present apparatus, a baffle in a pipe connection fitting preventing such material from backing up into the spin chamber.

Abstract: In a multipurpose jig apparatus of the type including a length of rigid pipe and a plurality of tail stops slidably mounted on the pipe and releasably gripping it so as to resist movement therealong in one direction but permit movement along the pipe in the other direction, a hand-operated jack is removably mounted on the pipe and in association with two tail stops for forcing such stops along the pipe in reaction to a mechanical advantage developed by a lever component of the jack. In one embodiment, the jack has an elongate, hand operated lever that is pivotally connected to a fulcrum support which in turn is integrally formed at one end of an otherwise conventional tail stop. An end of the lever opposite that of the handle is provided with cam and hook elements which couple the lever to another, adjacent tail stop. The handle end of the lever is grasped and stroked back and forth so as to cause the two tail stops and the lever to coact in an alternating push-pull sequence which advances the tail stops and the jack along the pipe in the direction in which the stops are free to move. Any counteracting force in the opposite direction is resisted by the unidirectional gripping action of the tail stops. In another embodiment, the jack lever is detachably mounted on the pipe by a C-shaped collar which fits around the pipe and is shouldered against one end of a first conventional tail stop. The C-shaped collar has an integrally formed fulcrum support on which the lever of the jack is pivotally mounted, and the end of the lever opposite the handle end is provided with camming elements which act to push a second and adjacent tail stop away from the first stop. Both tail stops and the jack are progressively advanced along the pipe by using the mechanical advantage of one stroke of the lever to push the first tail stop along the pipe in reaction to the fulcrum support and the C-shaped collar which are braced and thus held immobile by the first tail stop. Then, during the return stroke of the jack lever, the first tail stop and the C-shaped collar shouldered thereby are manually slipped up against the second tail stop whereafter the sequence is repeated. The mechanical advantage which enables the tail stops to be jacked along the pipe, over any desired length of travel, greatly enhances the usefulness of the jig apparatus when employed in either a clamping or spreading configuration, and furthermore enables new uses of the jig apparatus including hoisting, pulling and jacking up loads.
