摘要:
A firedamp-safe propellant charge comprising a pyrotechnical gas-yielding propellant, said propellant coated with a polymer and/or amides of C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 dicarboxylic acids and/or ammonium oxalate, which composition, upon ignition of the propellant, disintegrates into radicals, said coating being present on said popellant in an amount of 15 to 30 weight percent based upon the weight of said propellant charge.

The present invention relates to double-base solid propellant mixtures whose burning characteristic is regulated by the addition of certain moderators such that the burn rates obtained are achieved independently of the temperature and pressure during the burn. This regulation is accomplished by the addition of a mixture of carbon black and cellulose acetate. The weight ratio of carbon black to cellulose acetate in this mixture is between 1:0.5 and 1:10. Depending on the composition of the solid propellant, the combustion of the rocket fuel can be regulated by regulating this mixture within the stated limits such that it takes place independently of temperature and pressure. The amount of the carbon black and cellulose acetate mixture present in the fuel can vary between 0.2 and 6% by weight; the carbon black is contained in the propellants of the invention in amounts between 0.05 and 1.0% by weight. The charges contain as the energy-supplying component a mixture of cellulose nitrate and nitroglycerin, as well as known additives to facilitate working and increase the rate of burn. The effect in accordance with the invention is found also in those propellant charges which additionally contain as energy-supplying component still other known, high-energy substances.

A propellent charge for cartridge ammunition of propellent powder bodies of a certain geometric form is produced by filling the propellent powder bodies preferably in partial amounts and by means of a suitable funnel into the propellent case and compressing them there without the addition of binders and/or solvents up to a charge density 1.0 to 1.5 g/cc, and that they are shaped elastically to plasticity under substantially uniform and/or gradually varying compression.

A propellant charge composition comprising individual powder particles of a nitrocellulose propellant coated with a coating of an acrylic resin and a process for its preparation. Also disclosed is a propellant charge composition of the type described containing a second propellant.
摘要:
A process for producing propellant charge powders from solvent-containing mixtures such as nitroguanidine powders containing nitrocellulose and/ or nitrocellulose and diglycol dinitrate or nitroglycerin and nitroguanidine and additives wherein an alcohol-containing mixture or optionally a water-containing mixture of said propellant charge powders is premixed with additional components of the propellant powder, the mixture is first dried, if necessary, and the solvent is incorporated therein and the solvent-containing premix is homogenized and preplasticized in a kneading device or the water-containing premix is homogenized and preplasticized in the kneading device and then the resultant mixture is dewatered by drying and then combined with a solvent; then the solvent-containing mixture is plasticized in an extruder and converted thereby into granular form and the resulting granular material is extruded into a final product form in a screw-type extruder. Subsequently, the solvent is evaporated therefrom.

A single- or multiple-base powder charge for propellants is made up of at least one powder grain in the form of a shaped mass of powder having at least one internal cavity. The diameters of the internal cavities within the powder grains making up the charge are different and at least a portion thereof is smaller than the critical diameter that corresponds to the ignition pressure and that governs the penetration of the ignition flame into the internal cavities. With this arrangement at least a portion of the internal cavities is ignited with a retardation only by gas pressures that rise above the ignition pressure.
