    Abstract: In order to secure small and medium-size containers having a width of e.g. 2200 mm to locking members as provided at a standard lateral spacing of 2259 mm on vehicle platforms designed for transporting ISO containers, such small or medium containers are equipped with double-fittings (12) each comprising two openings (13) and projecting beyond the width dimension of the container. The center-to-center spacing of the two openings (13) is 280 mm and thus corresponds to the distance of pairs of locking members which are provided on such platforms for engaging adjacent corner fittings of two ISO containers placed behind each other. By the simultaneous coupling to such pairs of locking members, safe securing with better distribution of forces is achieved also for containers that are shorter than the shortest ISO container.

    Abstract: A swap tank has transverse bars disposed at the standard spacing of ISO containers and end portions extending beyond the transverse bars. Each end portion has associated with it a base frame structure including the transverse bar and a pair of diagonal struts which extend towards each other and are welded together at the tank end. A support member is welded between the interconnected ends of the diagonal struts and a ring welded to the tank bottom below the tank axis. The support member is formed as an integral bent sheet metal part having two lateral triangular wall elements. To compensate for manufacturing tolerances, the support member may be adjusted by varying the bending angle in such a manner that the free edges of the triangular wall elements extend parallel and flush with the outwardly facing surface of the ring and may be welded thereto. A structure is thus obtained which not only protects the projecting tank end but also serves to transmit longitudinal acceleration forces from the tank bottom into the corner fittings provided at the ends of the transverse bar.

    Abstract: In a freight container the tank is joined via saddle means to end frames which are provided with the standardized corner fittings which are normally used in container design and determine the outer dimensions of the container. Each saddle means in its simplest form consists of a cylindrical end ring welded to the relatively less curved spherical main portion of the tank end portion surrounded by the highly curved knuckle zone, and of a saddle ring of L-shaped cross-section having its radially extending flange secured to the end frame and/or diagonal struts thereof and its second flange extending in tank axial direction welded to the end ring. This structure permits a strong connection between the tank and the end frame, while the loads transmitted by the tank are almost completely directly introduced into the corner areas of the end frame. At the same time it permits the "breathing motions" occurring on account of temperature and pressure variations in the knuckle zone of the tank end portion. The relatively large angle at which the end ring joins the tank end portion avoids recesses which would not be readily accessible and therefore be susceptible to corrosion.

The end rings 20 are eccentrically secured to spherically curved end bottom portions 25 of the tank 10 in such a manner that at one tank end the respective ring is offset upwardly and at the other end offset downwardly. The further connecting elements 21; 30 connect the end ring 20 to the respective end frame 12. Due to the combination of the spherically curved bottom end portions 25 of the tank 10 with the circular end rings 20, the freight container may be readily assembled with any desired tank inclination.
