The first carriage and the second carriage are arranged on the same side of the printing substrate in the lateral direction and—to correct the position of the printing substrate in the lateral direction—are movable relative to each other in the direction of transport. Such a device may be used for transporting printing substrates and for correcting the register position of printing substrates in machines for processing printing substrates, preferably printing presses or machines for the further processing of printed products. The relative movement of the two carriages with respect to each other initiates a lateral movement of the gripper bar without influencing the advancement of the printing substrate.
