A method and apparatus for determining the degree of dynamic hardness of a material, such as a sporting equipment item. The method includes the steps of impulsively exciting a surface of the material by impacting the surface against a second, relatively hard surface in contact with a force-measuring device, and then measuring a signal from the force-measuring device to determine a frequency-dependent spectrum of the force exerted by the excited surface on the second surface. From this data, a roll-off frequency is measured and then analyzed to determine the degree of dynamic hardness of the material.

The drive enclosure possesses at least one of the following characteristics: the drive enclosure defines chamfers on at least one of four corners of the generally rectangular form factor; and the drive enclosure defines a first surface and a second surface that defines an interior second surface portion and a peripheral second surface portion and wherein the interior second surface portion is further away from the first surface than is the peripheral second surface portion.

A disk drive head stack assembly has a flexible printed circuit (FPC) including a flex cable and a flex stiffener. The flex stiffener includes a terminal region support portion that is attached to the actuator body, a flex cable guide portion, and a stiffener bend. The stiffener bend is between and connects the terminal region support portion and the flex cable guide portion. The flex cable includes a guided portion that is in contact with the flex cable guide portion. A flex cable terminal region is attached to the terminal region support portion. The stiffener bend is about a stiffener bend axis that is perpendicular to the actuator pivot axis.
