摘要:
A device for imparting a gradation of tint density on an ophthalmic or optical lens is described. This gradient-tinting device utilizes both vertical movement and rotation about the vertical axis of the lens as it moves into a tinting solution.

A method for simulating the effect of viewing an image through a colored filter or colored ophthalmic spectacle, contact, intraocular or other lens is described. This method includes using a computer program to alter the red (R), green (G) and blue (B) color brightness of the individual pixels of the original image and then displaying them on the display screen or other visual display device of a computer. Each pixel's original RGB brightness value is multiplied by a fraction, which is determined by the RGB transmission of the colored lens or filter. The altered image is then displayed to a system user who will see the original image, as it would appear if seen through the colored lens or filter.

A system and method for selecting safer colored ophthalmic spectacle, contact, intraocular and other lenses and filters by quantifying the amount of harmful, higher energy visible and near visible radiation blocked by it compared to the overall visible radiation passing through it is described. A figure of merit, which is produced by the method, is the Wertheim Factor, whose value is nearly 50% for lenses which block the harmful high energy radiation compared to beneficial light and is nearly 0% for lenses which pass all radiation equally. This method includes using a computer program to sample the visible and near visible transmission spectrum of said colored filter or colored ophthalmic spectacle, contact, intraocular or other lens and then evaluate the energy content of the photons present.

A device using light emitting diodes directed at the patient as a light source for evaluating the appropriate color and density of filters or sunglasses for a patient is disclosed. The device may be used with additional filters or sunglasses to determine what filter or sunglass color and density will provide optimal vision for targets of varying spatial frequency. The device may also be used with additional filters of varying color and density to determine the health of the patient's ocular media.

A device that utilizes a method to heat dyes to color plastic lenses. The device is an electrically heated outer tank containing a heat transfer medium. An inner tank containing a dye solution is placed in side the outer tank. Lenses are placed in the dye solution along with sensor probes and microprocessor control to maximize dye diffusion into the lenses and minimize boil over of the tanks. Spill containment and agitation stirring are also features which enhance diffusion of dye into the lenses while minimizing boil over.
