Abstract:
A rivet setting tool provided with a threaded bolt or drift for engaging a nut of the rivet. The rivet has a thin walled sleeve portion which is to be deformed during setting of the rivet and forms a flange. The rivet setting tool is driven with decreasing force during the working stroke of the rivet setting tool. In a first embodiment, a toggle lever arrangement having a pair of hand levers and a pair of linking levers is used to produce a decreasing force during the working stroke. In a second embodiment, a pneumatic cylinder cooperates with spring means in order to produce a force during the working stroke which is decreasing.
Abstract:
A blind riveting nut comprises a hollow shank portion and a setting head thereon at one end thereof. Towards the other end the shank portion has an internal screwthread for receiving the pulling mandrel of a blind rivet setting tool while at the end remote from the setting head, the shank portion has an element which closes off the interior of the shank portion at that end but which can be removed from its closure position. The closure element may be of various configurations including a ball and a portion of closure material fitted over the appropriate end of the shank portion.

Abstract:
A fastening element for fastening to a wall having an opening therethrough which is accessible only on one side of the wall, comprising a cylindrical upsettable shell having a flanged end. A cylindrical inset member having a flanged head is disposed in the shell, where the outside diameter of the head is equal to the outside diameter of the upsetting shell. Between the inset member and the upsetting shell, in an end zone adjacent the head, there is provided a material-closure, The underside of the head abuts against the shell to define a closed-linkage juncture with an adjoining face surface of the shell through direct contact. The inset member is provided with screwthreads to move the head of the inset member towards the flanged end of the shell, whereby the movement of the head upsets the shell which enlarges outwardly to define a ridge or bulge which abuts against a rear side of the wall, the bulge being larger than the opening in the wall.
Abstract:
A blind rivet element includes a setting head attached to one head of a shank that is smaller in diameter than the setting head and has an opposite end with an internal female thread or a receptacle for a threaded bolt as well as a deformation section disposed axially therebetween. The blind rivet is inelastically deformed from an unset condition to a set condition thereby forming a radially outwardly protruding bead which serves to fasten the blind rivet element to a workpiece. The deformation section includes a void that interrupts the bead and defines a non-arcuate edge along that portion of the bead disposed adjacent to the void.
Abstract:
A blind fastener has a setting head portion and a shank portion having one end connected with the setting head portion and an opposite end with an internal thread or a threaded bolt receptacle. The shank has a sidewall with an outside diameter smaller than the diameter of the setting head portion, and is configured for close reception in an aperture of the workpiece prior to being upset. The sidewall has a deformation area that is disposed between the setting head portion and the internal thread or the threaded bolt receptacle, and is upset radially outwardly to secure the fastener to the workpiece. The deformation area includes a central circumferential region which provides sole weakening for the sidewall.

Abstract:
A fixing element for fixing in a through hole accessible only from one side comprises an upsettable sleeve with a flange-like end and an insert member which is disposed in the sleeve and which has a flange-like head, the outside diameter of which is substantially equal to the outside diameter of the sleeve, with the underside of the head of the insert member being connected to the adjoining end face of the sleeve by direct contact therewith for the transmission of pressure therebetween, The sleeve can be deformed to produce a bead-like configuration by a axial pulling from applied to the insert member. There is a material bonding connection such as spot welds between the outer periphery of the insert member and the inner periphery of the sleeve in the end region thereof. In the region of the connection the sleeve comprises a round shank portion while in its deformable region it has a portion of polygonal section.
