Recorded in a tag area of each tomographic image is site information indicating the site contained in each tomographic image. A data server of the data center reads the volume data from the storage unit in response to a transmission request from a medical facility. Then, the data server extracts from the volume data the tomographic images of the same site as designated by the transmission request. The data server transmits the extracted tomographic images to the medical facility which made the transmission request.

An image server has a medical image DB for storing plural medical images, an anatomical illustration DB for storing plural anatomical illustrations that are used for comparison with the medical images, and an attribute information DB. In the attribute information DB, a file name of each anatomical illustration and a site depicted in each anatomical illustration are associated with each other. Upon receipt of a transfer request of anatomical illustration from a client terminal, a CPU of the image server reads out a medical image corresponding to the file name included in the transfer request from the medical image DB. The CPU inputs the read out medical image to a site recognizing section and to recognize the site being shot. The CPU then reads out an anatomical image corresponding to the site recognized by the site recognizing section from the anatomical illustration DB and transfers it to the client terminal.

This method is a method of restoring phase information by detecting intensity of radiation, and includes the steps of: (a) obtaining three first differential signals representing differentials between one image signal and another image signal based on four image signals obtained by detecting intensity of radiation on four planes and representing radiation image information respectively; (b) obtaining second and third differential signals representing differentials between image signals relative to two directions orthogonal to each other within the planes with respect to the three image signals; (c) obtaining a Laplacian of phase based on the three image signals and three sets of the first to third differential signals; and (d) performing inverse Laplacian operation on the Laplacian of phase so as to restore phase information.

Signal components of the weighted image signals representing corresponding pixels in the radiation images are subtracted from each other, and a difference signal representing an image of a specific structure of the object is obtained. The weight factor is set for each pixel in each radiation image and in accordance with a difference between logarithmic values of radiation doses with respect to corresponding pixels in the radiation images, or in accordance with a logarithmic value of a ratio between the radiation doses with respect to the corresponding pixels in the radiation images.
