摘要: A document retrieval is performed with similarities between documents in numeric data taken into consideration. To this end, generated is a set E of intervals in which each element of a set D of numeric values representing a feature A is included in any one of the intervals. Each numeric value in each document is indexed by assigning, with 1, an interval including an element x of the set D, and with 0, an interval without the element x. Each document data including numeric values is indexed by indexing its text part with term frequencies, and by indexing its numeric-value part with the above-described numeric value indexing scheme. By use of indices thus created for each of the document data, similarities between the document data are calculated using a vector space model or a probability model, and the document data are presented in order of similarity.

摘要: A mainframe system disk control unit is provided with apparatus for accessing open system storage connected to a SAN and apparatus for converting the input and output data format to that of the open system, and the mainframe is made to access a volume of open system storage in the same manner to a volume under control of the mainframe system disk control unit. Thus, data in the open system storage is backed up to the mainframe system. Communication is performed between the program on the mainframe and the program on the open system host computer, and prior to starting backup, the updating of data in the open system storage system is prohibited.

摘要: There is disclosed a map data delivering system for providing consistent road network information from supplement map information and map update information. The map data delivering system includes a navigation terminal and a map distribution server. The map distribution server includes a management data storage unit which stores an update element representing differential update data representing a difference of the map data, and update element management data containing an update element ID for identifying the update element, an update date before the updating of the map data, and a dependent update element ID for storing dependency on the updating of the map data; an update management data selector unit which selects the update element management data having the dependent update element ID among the update element management data having the located area overlapped with the map area of the map distribution request from the navigation terminal and the corresponding update element management data; and a network I/F unit which performs communication with the navigation terminal.

摘要: A data transforming method and apparatus of a database management system for transforming data within a disk storage device between database data formats, thereby reducing the system load, when converting data formats between database management systems. The invention includes a skeleton program for instructing data transformation and a communication program being provided on a host computer, and a data transformation program for transforming data formats and a communication program being provided on a disk storage. A request sent from the skeleton program via the communication programs to the data transformation program, causes the data format transformation to occur within the disk storage.

摘要: In order to store plural compressed records into a cache memory of a disk storage system in an easy-to-read manner, data to be stored in the cache memory is divided into plural data blocks each having two cache blocks in association with track blocks to which the data belongs and are compressed. The respective data blocks after the compression are stored in one or plural cache blocks. Information for retrieving each cache block from an in-track address for the data block is stored as part of retrieval information for the cache memory. When the respective data blocks in a record is read, the cache block storing the compressed data block is determined based on the in-track address of the data block and the retrieval information.

摘要: Parallel processors communicate with each other over a network by transmitting messages that include destination processor information. A message controller for each processor in the network receives the messages and checks for faults in the message, particularly in the destination processor number contained in a first word of the message. If a fault occurs in the destination processor number, then the faulty message is transmitted to an appropriate processor for handling the fault. In this way the network operation is not suspended because of the fault and the message is not left in the network as a result of the error occurring in the destination processor number. The processor to which the faulty message is directed is determined by a substitute destination processor number contained in the message or is predetermined and set in another way, such as by a service processor. To recover from the fault, the processor receiving the faulty message can request that the message be retransmitted or the error can be corrected using an ECC, for example. If the faulty message cannot be retransmitted, then the processor or the host processor can request that the job to which the faulty message pertains be canceled by all of the processors executing that job without affecting the simultaneous execution of other jobs by the same processors.

摘要: In the situation where an amount of information on a user action history is small, information which is unexpected and interesting to a user cannot be presented with high accuracy. In order to solve this problem, a general degree of unexpectedness of an item, which does not depend on the user action history, and a degree of preference of the user to the item, which is based on the user action history, are calculated in an integrated manner, whereby the information which is unexpected and interesting to the user is recommended.
