A magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus with a drum positioning mechanism is provided. The drum positioning mechanism performs track correction to rotate a tape guide drum about a given axis of rotation according to a travel speed of a magnetic tape to orient a head path of magnetic heads at a given angle relative to a lead member which guides movement of a lower edge of the magnetic tape wrapped about the tape guide drum so that the head path coincides with tracks recorded on the magnetic tape correctly. The drum positioning mechanism also performs lead correction to rotate the lead member through a given angle relative to a drum base to eliminate a shift of the lower edge of the magnetic tape from the lead caused by the track correction so that the lower edge of the magnetic tape follows the lead completely. The magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus may also be employed in a recording mode. In the recording mode, the head path is oriented by the track correction at a preselected angle to the lower edge of the magnetic tape.

A magnetic head actuator for displacing a magnetic head on a rotary magnetic head drum in a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus includes a hollow cylindrical yoke housing a permanent magnet and a central pole therein, providing a magnetic circuit having an air gap. A support shaft axially movably extends through the yoke and has opposite ends positioned outside of the yoke. A coil bobbin is attached to the end of the support shaft which is positioned outside of the open end of the yoke. The coil bobbin supports a coil which is axially movably positioned in the air gap. Two parallel resilient suspension support wings are mounted on the yoke and attached respectively to the opposite ends of the support shaft. A magnetic head holder supporting a magnetic head is mounted on the end of the support shaft near the bottom of the yoke. When the coil is energized, the coil bobbin and hence the support shaft are axially moved to displace the magnetic head to a desired track on a magnetic tape around the rotary magnetic head drum. Since the support shaft is supported by the parallel suspension support wings, the magnetic head is held in good contact with the magnetic tape and prevented from being tilted out of a desired azimuth with respect to the magnetic tape. The magnetic head which is positioned near the bottom of the yoke is free from leakage fluxes from the magnetic circuit.

A bundle of rays is incident in a lens array and converted into sub-bundles of rays. The sub-bundles of rays are separated by a color separator into first and second sub-bundles of rays of different colors. The first and the second sub-bundles of rays are combined by other lens arrays into a first and a second bundle of rays of uniform illuminance, respectively. The first and second bundle of rays of uniform illuminance are applied polarization beam splitting and then polarization angle conversion by polarization converters, to be converted into first and second linearly polarized beams, respectively. The second linearly polarized beams are separated by a color separator, provided on an optical path of the second linearly polarized beams, into third and fourth linearly polarized beams of different colors. The first, third and fourth linearly polarized beams are modulated by liquid crystal display devices, provided on optical paths of the first, third and fourth linearly polarized beams, respectively, with input video signals into first, second and third modulated beams. The first, second and third modulated beams are combined by a color combiner into a combined bundle of rays to be projected for displaying images carried by the video signals.
