Abstract:
An elastic diaphragm switch actuator molded from a soft rubberlike material to apply the actuating force to the elastic diaphragm. The actuator has shoulder portions which engage a stop plate to prevent the application of excessive force to the diaphragm member.
Abstract:
A snap-action switch and actuator are disclosed in which a resilient columnar compression member is axially loaded to the point of catastrophic buckling. In one embodiment, the column serves as both an electrical conductor and a contact. In this embodiment, it buckles into contact with another conductive member to complete a circuit. Alternatively, the buckled column may actuate a piezoelectric, optical, or other signal producing means to produce signals used for switching or to close other contacts.
Abstract:
A variable capacitance switch element is disclosed in which varying capacitance is effected by increasing the active surface area of a capacitive coupling member in proximity to a second capacitive plate. The structure of the variable capacitive element is such that the capacitance of the device varies in nearly linear fashion with the depression of an actuator member.
Abstract:
An elastic diaphragm switch is operated by moving a ribbon along a predetermined path obstructed by a bearing surface on a hammer. A projection on the ribbon presses against the bearing surface on the hammer, displacing the hammer against a spring supporting the hammer. Once the hammer is fully displaced, the ribbon passes beyond the bearing surface releasing the hammer to strike the elastic diaphragm of a switch, thereby momentarily closing the elastic diaphragm switch.
