Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for protecting a length of conveyor chain from contact by undesirable environmental fluids. In accordance with the method of the invention, a length of conveyor chain is surrounded with a non-deleterious fluid at a pressure higher than the pressure of undesirable environmental fluids so as to prevent the undesirable environmental fluids from moving into contct with the chain. An apparatus in accordance with the invention includes an envelope to maintain the nondeleterious fluid in surrounding relation to the conveyor chain.
