摘要: A method and a system for determining material-, size-, and morphology-dependent photothermal properties of particles dispersed in solutions, the method comprising using coherently detected pulsed THz radiation, tracking a temperature-dependent refractive index change of the particles dispersion in time and space, and correlating the temperature-dependent refractive index change of the particles dispersion in time and space to temperature values. A system comprises a source of electromagnetic radiation; a THz emitter; a THz detector; and a vessel containing a dispersion of particles, wherein the source of electromagnetic radiation is configured to emit electromagnetic radiation to excite the particles in the dispersion; the THz emitter is configured to send THz radiation to the vessel and the THz detector is configured to receives THz radiation returned by from the vessel.

摘要: A system and a method for generating tunable ultrafast optical pulses, the method comprising spectral broadening of a laser input beam by propagating the laser input beam in a nonlinear medium of a third-order nonlinear susceptibility χ(3), yielding an output laser spectrum; and one of: i) selecting at least one portion of the output laser spectrum, yielding an output pulse different than the input pulse and centered at a different frequency; ii) temporal compensation and spatial spreading of spectral components of the output laser spectrum; selecting two pulses at two different frequencies; and nonlinearly mixing the two pulses together in a first second-order nonlinear susceptibility χ(2) nonlinear crystal into a third pulse centered at a frequency which is a difference between the frequencies of the first two pulses; and iii) dividing output laser spectrum into a pump beam and a probe beam, directing a pump pulse to a third second-order nonlinear crystal for THz radiation generation; and directing a probe pulse to a third second-order nonlinear crystal for THz radiation reconstruction.

摘要: A device, a system and a method for homodyne solid-state biased coherent detection of terahertz pulses in a range between 0.1 and 11 THz, the device comprising a metallic slit between, and parallel to, two longitudinal metallic electrodes, deposited on a surface of a substrate, and covered with a layer of nonlinear material, wherein a width of the metallic slit and a thickness of the nonlinear material layer are selected in relation to a central wavelength of the THz pulses. The method comprises focusing a THz beam and a pulsed laser beam of pulse energies in a range between 10 and 100 nJ onto the metallic slit, the metallic electrodes being biased by a static DC voltage bias selected in a range between 20 VPP and 200 VPP; and retrieving a terahertz pulse waveform using the terahertz pulse repetition rate as synchronism.
