摘要: A method, system and apparatus for negotiating parameters for an IPSec connection between a requesting client and an iSCSI system using a computer system other than an iSCSI system are provided. By design, the iSCSI system monitors TCP (Transmission Control protocol) port 500 for secure requests. When a request enters port 500, the iSCSI system transmits all information received on port 500 to a computer system better suited to handle IPSec parameter negotiations. After the computer system has negotiated the parameters, the parameters are passed to the iSCSI system for a secure data transaction to ensue.

摘要: A method, system and apparatus for transferring data from one partition of a partitioned system to another without using a network are provided. When a first partition needs to transfer data to a second partition, it marks the data, which is located in its part of the system's partitioned memory, as a nullread-onlynull data and indicates so to partitioned system's firmware or hardware. This indication is usually manifested by passing a pointer to the data, as well as the identification of the partition to receive the data to the firmware or hardware. Upon being notified, the firmware or hardware of the partitioned system re-assigns the memory locations containing the data to the second partition and passes the pointer to the second partition. As a measure of (redundant) security, the second partition checks to see whether the data is indeed a nullread-onlynull data. If so, it reads the data, else it does not. After reading the data, it so informs the firmware or hardware so that the memory locations of the data can be re-assigned back to the first partition. Thus, because the data never enters the network, it is transferred with the utmost security.

摘要: A method, system and apparatus for diagnosing network protocol errors using an XML document are provided. Data packet exchanges are captured and used to generate an XML document. In one embodiment, the XML document is passed through parser to diagnose the errors. In another embodiment, the network protocol errors are diagnosed by visually inspecting the XML document.

摘要: A method, system, and computer program product applicable within a server for adaptively allocating target resources in a network environment. In accordance with the method of the present invention, a storage name server triggers a forced target rediscovery evolution during competing sessions in which multiple initiator nodes are communicatively connected to a target node utilizing an associated network target address. The target rediscovery mechanism is triggered in response to session feedback received from one or more competing initiator nodes or the object target node. Responsive to the received session feedback, the storage name server issues session interruption instructions, and replaces the network target address associated with the target node with a different network target address. Finally, a target rediscovery message is issued to the competing initiator nodes, wherein the target rediscovery message directs the initiator nodes to rediscover available target nodes in accordance with associated network target addresses.

摘要: A pre-boot multicast address management protocol for a computer network. This novel protocol includes an address conflict-clearing process that ensures that the same multicast address is not given to separate clients desiring different boot information. This address conflict-clearing technique alleviates any addressing conflicts and address duplication problems and enables multiple boot negotiation server processes to be present on the same network. The novel protocol of the present invention also provides a means for a boot negotiation server process and a multicast file server process to communicate in a bi-directional manner. Thus, the boot negotiation server process and the multicast file server process can communicate by sending messages and responses back and forth between each other. This communication feature allows the boot negotiation server process and the multicast file server process to reside on separate computers within the network.
