Abstract: A composite seat core material is configured from: a base portion that is formed by fusing thermoplastic resin foamed particles having no through-hole to each other; and a connecting portion that is provided on the upper side of the base portion, and is formed by fusing foamed particles having through-holes to each other, the connecting portion having interconnected void spaces that communicates with the outside. With the outer surface of the connection portion partially exposed at the top surface of the composite seat core material, the base portion and the connecting portion are fixed and integrated with each other. A seat member is formed by laminating a polyurethane foam pad on the top surface of the composite seat core material.

Abstract: A method for producing a seat core material that has a foamed molded substrate and a frame member embedded in a periphery thereof, which includes, as step (a), heating thermoplastic resin expanded beads in a mold cavity, in which the frame member has been disposed, to fusion-bond the expanded beads to each other and to obtain the foamed molded substrate with the frame member being embedded in the periphery thereof; and, as step (b), simultaneously with step (a) or after step (a), forming a void cavity S, S′ in the foamed molded substrate at a position along and adjacent to the frame member. The void cavity S, S′ has a size and shape that allows a relative displacement between the frame member and the foamed molded substrate when the foamed molded substrate shrinks after step (b).

Abstract: A method for manufacturing including securing attachments disposed near both ends in the seat core member front portion made of a molded article of expanded beads, the securing attachments being connected by an embedded connecting member extending in the seat core member longitudinal direction. The securing attachment includes a base embedded in the molded article of expanded beads, an upright frame joined to the base to extend out of the molded article of expanded beads, and a securing portion extending from the upright frame to project away from the molded article of expanded beads. The method includes creating, during or after molding the molded article of expanded beads, a space or notch in an outer side of the securing attachment upright frame of the molded article of expanded beads in the seat core member longitudinal direction, the notch extending toward an outer side in the seat core member longitudinal direction.
