    摘要: Leather treating compositions are prepared which comprise condensed or polymeric alkyl phenol phosphates generally and more particularly a phenol-alkylphenol condensate which is subsequently alkoxylated and phosphated. These compositions may be utilized for leather processing, and specifically for: retanning, lubricating, and imparting water resistance to chrome and/or mineral tanned leather. Additionally, these compositions may be used to effect modifications of base mineral tannages for the purpose of dyeing, bleaching, and fatliquoring leather.

    摘要: Aircraft wing assemblies having both composite and metal panels are disclosed. In one embodiment, a wing assembly includes a support structure, an upper panel assembly formed from a metal material and coupled to the support structure, and a lower panel assembly formed from a composite material and coupled to the support structure. The metal material may be aluminum, titanium, or any other suitable metal, and the composite material may be a carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) material or other suitable composite material. In another embodiment, the upper panel assembly includes a downwardly depending first web portion, and the lower panel assembly includes an upwardly depending second web portion, the second web portion being proximate the first web portion, and an interface member of an isolating material is disposed between the first and second web portions.

    摘要: Apparatus for limiting the effect of vibrations between a building structure and its foundation is disposed between the foundation and the building structure. A plate is fixedly secured to a lower surface of the building structure. A hollow member having a rectangular cross-section is fixedly secured to the plate. An elastomeric bearing is disposed between and fixed to the hollow member and an upper surface of a foundation. A cable, anchored to the foundation, is centrally disposed within the elastomeric bearing and the hollow member, and has a stop attached to the free end thereof. The stop is disposed within the hollow member. The stop serves to limit horizontal and vertical movement of the elastomeric bearing. In a modified apparatus for limiting the effect of vibrations between the building structure and the foundation, an elastomeric material is disposed between the stop and the base of the hollow member to distribute a load applied by the stop through the deflection of the elastomeric material.

The helmet and shoulder-harness assembly includes a yoke or shoulder pad having a central opening for the wearer's head to pass therethrough. A protective helmet is pivotally supported over the central opening. Arcuate tracks allow the head of the wearer to be turned from side to side. Stops within the pivoting joints supporting the helmet limit neck flexion and extension. Stops at the ends of these tracks limit neck torsion. Neck compression is limited by the rigidity of the uprights supporting the helmet.

    摘要: A fiber reinforced elastomeric seismic isolation bearing and method protects structures and their contents from the damaging effects of earthquakes. The bearing is a block of a specially designed composite material consisting of an elastomer matrix in which are embedded, through its depth, high stiffness pretensioned fibers extending in various horizontal directions. This produces a device which has a very low horizontal stiffness compared to its vertical stiffness. The isolator is mounted between, and connected to, the structure it supports and the foundation upon which it bears. Because of its low horizontal stiffness the bearing decouples the structure which it supports from the damaging horizontal components of the ground motion associated with an earthquake while the benign vertical motion is transmitted into the structure almost unchanged. Thus, during an earthquake, the structure, which typically will rest on several supporting isolators, and its contents experience small acceleration, velocity and deformation. The isolation bearing and method includes the use of elastomeric laminae with parallel pretensioned fibers, forming a series of cells which are vulcanized into an adherent connection and positioned to be connected between a structure and a structure foundation.

    摘要: The communication of confidential information is generally accomplished by transforming applied message waves into an unintelligible form prior to transmission. Such a transformation may be accomplished by scrambling the applied message waves in either the frequency or time domain. Scrambling, per se, does not render a signal satisfactorily unintelligible. In order to overcome this deficiency, scrambling techniques are utilized jointly with vocoder and selective speech processing methods. In a voice-excited vocoder, the spectrum channel control signals are scrambled in the frequency domain and the baseband signal is severely center clipped in order to enhance unintelligibility. A high degree of privacy during transmission is thus obtained with negligible effect upon the quality or intelligibility of speech synthesized by an authorized recipient.
