摘要： A form, fill and seal packaging machine for forming, filling and sealing a carton, molds a closure directly onto the carton. The machine includes a carton erection station adapted to receive a carton in a generally flat form and to erect the flat form carton into a tubular form defining an internal carton region. A direct injection molding station has an internal mold tool and an external mold tool. The internal mold tool is configured for receipt within the internal carton region and the internal mold tool and the external mold tool are configured to receive and clamp the carton therebetween. The direct injection molding station further includes a polymer injection system for injecting polymer from a location external of the carton to the internal mold tool. The closure is directly molded in place on the carton. A mold tool set, a method for carrying out the molding and a closure molded thereby are also disclosed.

摘要： A closure for a package that is adapted for mounting to a surface of the package includes a mounting flange having substantially planar upper and lower surfaces that define a thickness and define a flange plane. A spout extends from the upper surface of the flange and has an inner wall defining a dispensing opening. A membrane has a central portion and a circumferential edge region and is formed in the spout so as to extend to the inner wall to define a spout seal. The membrane is severable from the spout at the edge region. The edge region is selectively thinned and has a pair of first thickness regions and a pair of second thickness regions interposed between the first thickness regions. The second thickness regions have a thickness that is greater than a thickness of the first thickness regions.

摘要： A flat-top, hermetically sealed, paperboard-based container and apparatus and method of making it are set forth. The paperboard-based container includes a rectangular sleeve having upper end sections joined at fold lines with side walls. The upper end sections are divided into inner and outer opposed pairs which are folded toward one another in an overlapping manner to form a generally flat end for the container. Each of the inner and outer opposed sections includes a cutout. When the upper end sections are folded in and overlapping manner, the cutouts define an aperture having edges that include exposed paperboard substrate. Each of the inner pair of opposed end sections are divided along fold lines into a middle region and laterally opposed side regions. The laterally opposed side regions are folded onto the middle region and are sandwiched between the middle region and the outer pair of opposed sections when folded to form the container top. One of the outer pair of opposed upper end sections is longer than the other so that the longer outer end section overlaps exterior to the shorter of the outer pair of opposed upper end sections. An opening fitment is disposed through the aperture and includes a flange at the interior of the container. The flange covers the exposed edges of the aperture. The fitment is preferably a resealable cover, such as a resealable screw-type spout and cap or the like.
