    摘要: A machine for forming a container from a blank of sheet material including a glue panel and an overlap panel includes a frame, a mandrel mounted to the frame, a glue panel folder assembly, and a glue panel presser assembly. The mandrel has an external shape complimentary to an internal shape of at least a portion of the container. The glue panel folder assembly includes an actuator and a glue panel folding member operatively coupled to the actuator. The actuator is configured to cause the glue panel folding member to move in a curvilinear path of motion, contact the glue panel, and move the glue panel into at least partial contact with the mandrel. The glue panel presser assembly is configured to press the overlap panel into face-to-face contact with the glue panel to form a manufacturer joint of the container.

    摘要: A carton having a primary elevated bottom portion extending along the length of an exposed raw paperboard edge to protect the carton and to prevent moisture absorption. The carton also having a secondary elevated bottom portion substantially within the primary elevated portion and having an elevation greater than the primary elevated bottom portion. Additional elevated portions are provided for additional raw paperboard edges on the bottom of the carton. The present invention alleviates the problem of cartons having soggy bottoms since the point of absorption, the raw paperboard edge, is elevated above the moisture which may be present during distribution from the packaging machine to the retailer. The elevated bottom portion is actually inverted into the carton with planar portions resting on the surface to support the carton.

    摘要: A single generally rectangular blank which can be formed into a paperboard package. The four corners of the blank are trihedral. The blank is center folded. The width of a first portion of the blank, measured parallel to the centerfold, is greater than a second portion of the blank. The blank is sealed on the two sides adjacent the centerfold to form an open package, which is then filled. The side opposite the centerfold is then sealed to close the package, forming a parallelepiped container. The seals are fin seals. The fin seal opposite the centerfold of the blank overlaps the two seals adjacent the centerfold. The three fin seals are folded flat against the sides of the package. The package may be provided with an opening through the blank. A tab may be provided to completely cover and seal around the opening in the package. The tab includes a grip portion which, when pulled upwardly, lifts the tab away from around the opening in the package. As the tab is pulled upwardly, an outer laminate layer tears away from an inner paper core of the package in the region of the seal between the tab and the package, uncovering the opening in the package. The tab will remain hingedly connected to the package along a rear tongue portion.

    摘要: The combination of a carrier for a container, a squaring plate, a drive for the squaring plate, and a sealing assembly. The carrier accepts a container having first and second spaced flat walls that are substantially parallel to each other with the container in an erected state and third and fourth walls each connecting between the first and second flat walls. The carrier has a first edge against which the first wall of the container can be abutted so that the first wall is thereby supported in a first orientation with the container operatively held by the carrier. The squaring plate is guided in movement relative to the carrier towards the first edge. The squaring plate has a guide edge for engaging the second wall of the container operatively held by the carrier as the guide edge moves relative to the carrier towards the first edge and thereby repositioning the second wall relative to the first wall as an incident of which the first wall is urged toward the first orientation and the first and second walls are urged into substantially parallel relationship with each other. The sealing assembly has a sealer element that is guidingly advanced towards and against a part of the container operatively held by the carrier to thereby reconfigure and close the part of the container operatively held by the carrier.
