Abstract: According to an aspect, a display device includes: a display panel that includes a first light-transmitting substrate, a second light-transmitting substrate, and a liquid crystal layer between the first and second light-transmitting substrates, and has an active region capable of displaying images and peripheral regions outside the active region; a glass base member bonded to the display panel; and a light source disposed so that light enters a side surface of the first light-transmitting substrate, a side surface of the second light-transmitting substrate, or a side surface of the glass base member. The light source includes a light guide and light emitters. At least one of the light emitters is disposed in each of first regions that overlap regions obtained by extending the peripheral regions located on opposite sides of the active region.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display device includes a first substrate having a first surface, a second surface on a side opposite to the first surface, and a first side surface which connects the first surface with the second surface, a second substrate having a second side surface and opposed to the first surface, an IC chip mounted on the first substrate, and a first heat radiation layer which is in contact with the second surface to radiate heat generated from the IC chip. The first substrate includes an extending portion which extends further than the second side surface, the IC chip is located on the first surface at the extending portion, and the first heat radiation layer overlaps the IC chip.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a detection device includes: a planar detection device including photodetection elements arranged in a planar configuration; a light-transmitting placement substrate to place thereon objects to be detected; and light sources provided correspondingly to the photodetection elements. The detection device has: a first period in which the first light sources are on and the second light sources are off; and a second period in which the second light sources are on and the first light sources are off. Abstract: A display device includes a display panel including a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal layer between a pair of substrates, a transparent substrate disposed on at least one side of the display panel, and a lighting unit configured to project light from the side of the transparent substrate. The lighting unit includes at least one light source, at least one light guide incident with the light emitted from the light source, and a support member having an L-shaped cross section and extending along one side of the display panel to which the at least one light source and the at least one light guide are fixed. The at least one light source and the at least one light guide are disposed on different sides of the support member. The lighting unit is fixed to the transparent substrate or the display panel by the support member.
