摘要: A technique in which content is supplied to an electronic reader device is described. A time at which to send content to the electronic reader device is stored in a content server based on user preferences, user electronic reader device interaction or network conditions. The content is transmitted to the electronic reader device at the time for later display. Additional content may be securely supplied to the electronic reader device for purchase. The additional content may be in a format such that when a user later enters a request to purchase the content, the content can be instantly displayed.

摘要: Power management features of a reader device control an amount of electrical energy supplied to the reader device. The power management features include several power control categories that a user may select to affect an amount of power consumed by the reader device. One power control category controls power consumption based on a genre of an electronic book being processed by the reader device. Another power control category controls power consumption based on a time of day an electronic book is being processed by the reader device. Power control instructions that control how much power a reader device consumes may also be generated based on a characteristic of a user's interaction with the device.

摘要: A method of providing a broadcast is disclosed. One or more network communications is received via a network from each of a plurality of users of a broadcast provided at least in part other than via the network, each indicating a preference of the sending user with respect to a content of the broadcast. The network communications is processed to determine and update dynamically, and to provide for possible inclusion in the broadcast, a broadcast stream that reflects at least in part the network communications received from the plurality of users.

摘要: A method of promoting user participation in a social broadcast environment is disclosed. Based on an attribution criterion, it is determined that a user is to receive credit for affecting a broadcast of a content data designated by the user. A user profile data associated with the user is processed to include in a broadcast stream generated for the broadcast an attribution content associated with the user. A method of providing user participation in a social broadcast environment is disclosed. A network communication is received from a user of a broadcast that includes a preference data indicating a preference of the user that a promoted content be included in the broadcast. Via a responsive network communication, a feedback data is provided to the user that includes a predicted future time at which the promoted content may be included in the broadcast. A method of promoting user participation in a social broadcast environment is disclosed. Based on an attribution criterion, it is determined that a user is to receive credit for affecting a broadcast of a content data designated by the user. A processor is used to transform a data associated with the user to include in a broadcast stream generated for the broadcast an attribution content associated with the user.

摘要: A reader device and method for operating a reader device include content indexing features designed to make the use of a reader device more satisfying. A plurality of indexes is stored on a reader device. One of the indexes stored in the reader device is also stored at a remote site. Several indexes stored at the remote site may be substantially similar to one or more of the indexes stored on a reader device. The indexes stored at the remote site may be used to update one or more indexes stored on a reader device. In one implementation, the reader device is an electronic book (“eBook”) reader device.
