Abstract: A workpiece transfer device includes a mounting frame assembly having an upper fixed frame and an inner subframe slidably mounted to the fixed frame. The inner subframe supports a gear rack on its upper surface and a separate conveying system within its frame. A drive unit is mounted on top of the fixed frame and includes idler rollers and a drive gear. The drive gear engages the gear rack thereby moving the whole inner subframe assembly, including the conveyor system in a horizontal path between two presses. As the inner subframe moves along a horizontal plane, a locking plate assembly prevents the conveyor belt from traveling with the inner subframe. The end gears in the conveyor rotate along the stationary belt forcing a workpiece carrier to move from one end of the conveyor system to the opposite end in the same direction as the inner subframe. Therefore, as the inner subframe moves in a horizontal path, the carrier is simultaneously moved along the same path.

Abstract: An article transfer apparatus for moving at least one article from a first position to a second position wherein a single drive independently drives one of two lift arms that are reciprocally movable between the first position and the second position independent of one another. The article transfer apparatus provides a base member that is movable on a guide rail for movement along a predetermined path. First and second lift arms are movably supported on the base member for reciprocal and independent movement between the first and second positions. The movement between the first and second positions of the lift arms define a first path of travel, and the base member moving along the guide rail defines a second path of travel wherein the first path of travel is substantially perpendicular to the second path of travel. The single drive cooperatively engages the first and second lift arm to independently drive the first and second lift arms between the first position and the second position. A supporting means is provided to support one of the first and second lift arms in the first position when the other of the first and second lift arms is driven outside the first position by the single drive.

Abstract: A locating device for locating a body such as an electrical box behind a wall or ceiling. The device includes a first member positionable in the body and a second member that can be positioned on the outer surface of the wall or ceiling. A magnet positioned in the first member cooperates with a magnet positioned in the second member to maintain the second member in an aligned position with respect to the electrical box. Abstract: An apparatus for converting rotational movement of a rotary member to harmonic linear motion for moving an article transfer apparatus between a first position and a second position. The apparatus provides a follower pivotally connected to the extending end of the rotary member, and a planar support plate having a slotted aperture for receiving the follower of the rotary member. A pair of opposing low friction planar guides slidingly support the support plate of the article transfer apparatus for movement in a predetermined plane. When the rotary member rotates, the follower moves along the slotted aperture of the support plate, and the support plate slides along the planar guides thus imparting linear motion to the article transfer apparatus. When the rotary member is rotated at a substantially constant rotary speed, the linear motion translated to the article transfer apparatus is best described as harmonic motion. The article transfer apparatus may provide a conveyor for transferring an article or workpiece along a predetermined path of travel. The conveyor may have its own independent power means for powering the conveyor.
