摘要: A subcutaneous drug delivery device having a housing having an internal reservoir in communication with a drug delivery needle via a fluid path. An expandable chamber disposed adjacent to the reservoir forces drug from the reservoir to the needle when supplied with a gas. A flow regulating chamber, in communication with the fluid path, is capable of volumetric changes in response to temperature and/or pressure changes. An increase in the volume of the flow regulating chamber increases flow resistance to the needle and thereby counteracts the corresponding increase in delivery rate resulting from the expansion of the expandable chamber due to the same volumetric changes in response to temperature and/or pressure. The device also includes an improved filling system that enables the reservoir within the device to be filled with drug from a source without regard to filling position and with a decreased risk of injury from needles. Moreover, the filling system provides an accurate measure of drug transferred into the device thus enabling patients to fill the devices and to ensure proper dosage upon delivery.

摘要: A system adapted to be disposed between a rigid or semi-rigid device and human skin for reliably attaching the device to the skin for an extended period of time. The system includes a skin-contacting surface for adhering to human skin, and an opposed surface for attachment to a rigid or semi-rigid device. The system is attached along its opposed surface to a portion of the total area of the adjacent surface of the device. When the device is subjected to external stress, the stress is transmitted through the area of attachment and distributed to the unattached area. This minimises stress on the skin and reduces the chance of detachment from the skin.

摘要: A needle (10) for the delivery of a liquid to a subject comprises a shaft (11) having an internal surface defining a longitudinally extending internal bore open at one end (15) to receive a liquid supply, the other end (16) being sharpened for penetration of the skin of the subject. A plurality of apertures (18) are provided, each in the form of a cut extending across the external surface of the side of the shaft (11) at a sufficient depth to establish communication with the bore. The external aperture area is approximately three times greater than the internal aperture area, thereby ensuring that the liquid is delivered to a large surface area of tissue to improve absorption and eliminate fluctuations in the delivery rate. The needle (10) can be mass-produced by aligning a batch of shafts alongside one another and running a grinder across the surfaces of the shafts to create the apertures (18) in the entire batch of needles simultaneously.

摘要: A projectile launched from a conventional weapon; upon impact with a human target the projectile attaches to the target and stuns and disables the target by applying a pulsed electrical charge. The electric round is defined as non lethal ammunition directed to incapacitate a human, to prevent him from moving for a short time, to prevent him from committing a crime and to allow authorized personnel to arrest the target. A novel thin film technology transformer and thin film technology battery produce an electrical shock capable of stunning a human being in a device the size of a conventional bullet. The transformer and battery are smaller and lighter than conventional transformers and batteries with similar power output.

摘要: A projectile is provided for use in a non-lethal weapon system. The projectile having kinetic energy is launched substantially along the longitudinal axis in the direction of a target. Upon impact of the projectile with the target an elastic mechanism absorbs elastically a first portion of the kinetic energy. A locking mechanism stores the first portion of the kinetic energy within the elastic mechanism; whereby the remaining kinetic energy of the impact is reduced to a non-lethal level of the target. The projectile preferably includes a deformable head attached to the first body. The deformable head is formed from a viscoelastic material which manifests both the elastic mechanism (with the elastic mechanical properties of the viscoelastic material) and further manifests the locking mechanism with the viscous properties of the viscoelastic material.

摘要: In a drum having a flexible sheet material removably held on to an outer surface thereof, a method for reducing aerodynamic lift of an edge of the material, comprising the step of introducing a thin sealing strip between the outer surface of the drum and an inner surface of the film at the edge of the material. The lift may be caused by the natural tendency of the sheet material to curl at its edges and may be exacerbated by the flow of air under the edges as the drum rotates.

摘要: A method for incapacitating an object using a non-lethal projectile equipped with a motion sensing device. The non-lethal projectile is fired at and preferably attaches to the object. Motion of the object is monitored by the motion sensing device. Upon sensing motion of the object, the non-lethal projectile provides a first or another incapacitating stimulus to the object if the motion is sensed as meeting at least one criterion. The criterion may be based on a previously determined algorithm or the threshold is previously determined.
