Abstract: A milling tool includes a rotatable tool body, a cutting insert, and first and second coolant outlets. The rotatable tool body is configured to rotate around an axis. The rotatable tool body includes a circumferential outer surface with a pocket defined therein. The pocket includes a seating surface. The cutting insert is disposed within the pocket. The cutting insert includes a seating face and a rake face opposed to the seating face. The seating face is disposed against the seating surface. The first coolant outlet is disposed in or attached to the rotatable tool body disposed on an opposite side of the rake face as the seating face. The second coolant outlet is disposed in or attached to the rotatable tool body disposed on an opposite side of the seating face as the rake face. The second coolant outlet is disposed outside of and adjacent to the seating face.

Abstract: A double-sided, polygonal cutting insert includes a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. A plurality of side surfaces extend between the first surface and the second surface. A plurality of primary concave cutting edges are formed at an intersection between the plurality of side surfaces and the first and second surfaces, and a plurality of convex wiper edges are formed at an intersection between the plurality of side surfaces and the first and second surfaces. Each wiper edge has a step extending radially outward from a respective side surface. The cutting insert is mounted in a cutting tool such that the primary cutting edge and a wiper edge contact a workpiece to produce a high-quality surface finish on the workpiece.

Abstract: A toolholder (10) has a pocket (20) that accommodates two styles of cutting inserts (25, 25′) having different clearance angles (CA). A support pad (78, 80) protrudes from two side walls (82, 84) of the pocket (20). Each support pad (78, 80) includes a first, planar wall (78a, 80a) and a second, planar wall (78b, 80b) formed at a composite angle defined by a first angle (92) and a second angle (94). The first, planar wall (78a, 80a) enables the pocket (20) to accommodate the second style of cutting insert (25′), and the second, planar wall (78b, 80b) enables the pocket (20) to accommodate the first style of cutting insert (25). In one aspect, the support pads (78, 80) extend the entire length, L, of the support pad (78, 80). In another aspect, an indentation (112, 114) divides one or both of the support pads (178, 180) into two portions, each portion having two planar walls (178a, 178b, 178c, 178d, 180a, 180b, 180c, 180d).

Abstract: A cutting insert includes a body portion having an upper surface, a lower surface located opposite the upper surface, and side surfaces extending between the upper surface and the lower surface. The body portion disposed about an axis passing through the upper and lower surfaces. The cutting insert further including a plurality of projecting portions provided integrally with the body portion at an outer position thereof in a direction orthogonal to the axis. Each projecting portion has an upper and lower surface, two side surfaces, a side end surface extending between the side surfaces, a round corner surface extending between the upper and side end surfaces, and a cutting edge formed between at least one of the side surfaces and the side end surface. The side surface of each projecting portion is structured to engage a first or second contact surface of a mounting seat formed in a cutter body.
