Abstract: The invention relates to an optical monitoring system (200) for monitoring an X-ray tube (100), the optical monitoring system (200) comprising: at least one optical sensor (201) configured to detect first signals of a first optical parameter and second signals of a second optical parameter thereby generating measurement data, wherein the first and second optical parameters are selected from the group comprising plasma glow, discharges, micro-discharges, arcs, x-ray fluorescence, line emissions, wherein the first and second optical parameters are different from each other, the optical monitoring system (200) further comprising a computing unit (202) configured to transmit, to a remote system (300) external of optical monitoring system (200) and the X-ray tube (100), said generated measurement data and/or a result of an analysis of measurement data carried out by the computing unit (202). The invention further relates to a unit comprising an X-ray tube (100) and such an optical monitoring system (200), as well as to a method (400) for monitoring an X-ray tube (100).

Abstract: Method and apparatus for predicting maintenance and failure of X-ray tubes are disclosed. X-ray radiation signals are received directly from one or more X-ray detectors without being attenuated by an object or subject under examination. The unattenuated X-ray radiation signals and scan metadata data are stored in memory, and time domain analysis and frequency domain analysis is performed on the stored X-ray radiation signals. Amplitude and frequency data for all peaks greater than a predetermined Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) from a spectrum derived from the frequency analysis are stored. Components of an X-ray tube are monitored according to the stored amplitude and frequency data. The stored amplitude and frequency data for all peaks greater than the predetermined SNR may be written to a data file for further analysis.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for monitoring the operational safety of an imaging system are disclosed. Radiation signals are received directly from one or more radiation detectors. The unattenuated radiation signals and scan metadata data are stored in memory, and time domain analysis and frequency domain analysis is performed on the stored radiation signals. Amplitude and frequency data for all peaks greater than a predetermined Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) from a spectrum derived from the frequency analysis are recorded. The operational safety of the imaging system is monitored according to the recorded amplitude and frequency data. Previously recorded amplitude and frequency data that is written to a data file may be used to compare against currently recorded amplitude and frequency data or may be used to determine threshold values which when exceed by the currently recorded amplitude and frequency data generate a warning and/or automatic stop of an active scan.
