Abstract: A system comprises a first container (2) holding liquid (9) and a second container (4) holding a shaving unit (1) in the liquid (9). A pump (3) pumps the liquid (9) from the first container (2) into the second container (4). A drain (5) enables the liquid (9) to flow from the second container (4) back to the first container (2). A pump driver (6) supplies power to the pump (3) during active periods (Ta) of a cleaning cycle (Tt). A sensor (7) senses the power. A controller (8) detects a disruption in the flow of the liquid (9) by detecting that sensed information (Ab) deviates more than a threshold value (At) from nominal information (An). Abstract: An HME for use in providing a flow of breathing gas to a patient includes a housing defining a main passage for conveying the flow of breathing gas therethrough as well as an HME element and a number of valve arrangements positioned within the main passage. Each valve arrangement includes a valve passage and a valve member moveable among a first position wherein the passage of gases through the valve passage is prevented and thus flow in the main passage is required to pass through the HME element, and a second position in which the passage of gases through the valve passage is permitted and thus flow in the main passage can bypass the HME element. The positioning of the valve member of each valve arrangement among the first position and the second position is dependent on a flow of gas through the main passage.

Abstract: An apparatus for humidifying a gas flow stream is described. The apparatus comprises a plurality of humidification chambers connected in a sequence to allow the gas flow stream to flow sequentially through the plurality of humidification chambers. Each humidification chamber is configured to contain a liquid over which the gas flow stream can flow. At least one humidification chamber comprises a nozzle that forms the gas flow stream into a gas jet that impinges on a surface of the liquid in each humidification chamber. The humidity level of the gas increases as the gas flow stream flows sequentially through the plurality of humidification chambers.
