Abstract: A yarn to be dyed at intermittent locations is continuously transported at high speed and in stretched condition past a nozzle supplied with dyestuff under pressure, with interposition of one or more rotary shutters such as disks with arrays of apertures of various configurations centered on the axis of rotation. Synchronization between yarn motion and shutter rotation may be achieved by designing the shutter as a grooved pulley or sheave with a frustoconical recess having apertures near the groove bottom through which a yarn entraining the pulley or entrained by it can be sprayed by a nozzle lodged in the recess.

Abstract: Filamentary material to be dyed is moved under tension at high speed past a dye-spraying nozzle adapted to spray such material intermittently. The dye application may be varied by applying the dye as the filamentary material moves past a series of nozzles controlled to spray dye in different phase relationships. The dye application to the filamentary material may also be processed by applying a twist to the sprayed filamentary material by applying a gaseous blast tangentially thereto. The dye may be applied in spaced chambers having baffles which engage the dye jets whereby dye is reflected into the moving filamentary material.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for continuously spinning and winding yarn are provided in enabling a stored length of spun yarn stored in a stacked and layered form in the course of traveling from the spinning point to the winding point to have yarn removed therefrom, without interrupting the spinning process, not only in the normal direction of yarn travel but also temporarily in the opposite direction.
