    摘要: A liquid crystal apparatus includes: a ferroelectric liquid crystal device comprising an electrode matrix including a plurality of scanning lines and a plurality of data lines intersecting with the scanning lines, and a ferroelectric liquid crystal disposed between the scanning lines and data lines, and a driver for sequentially applying a scanning signal to the scanning lines for selecting a particular scanning line, and for applying data signals for the pixels on the selected scanning line to the data lines. Each of the data signals has a plurality of pulses including a pulse in a controlled phase and a pulse in an auxiliary phase, and the scanning signal for the selected scanning line has a compensation pulse for compensating the pulse in the auxiliary phase of a data signal for a pixel on the selected scanning line.

    摘要: A liquid crystal apparatus comprises: matrix electrodes which are formed by a scanning electrode group and an information electrode group which intersect the scanning electrode group so as to face the scanning electrode group; a ferroelectric liquid crystal which is arranged between those electrode groups and is driven by an electric field applied through the electrode groups; a drive circuit having a scanning side drive circuit for sequentially generating scan selection signals to the scanning electrode group and for generating scan non-selection signals to the scanning electrodes whose scan is not selected and an information side drive circuit for generating information signals to the information electrode group synchronously with the scan selection signal in accordance with the input information; and a control circuit for controlling the drive circuit in a manner such that an interval between two scan selection signals which are continuously applied to the same scanning electrode is set to a predetermined period of time smaller than a full screen scanning period.

    摘要: There is provided a ferroelectric liquid crystal device wherein the yellowing due to a cell thickness increase or occurrence of voids is suppressed. The ferroelectric liquid crystal device includes a pair of substrates each having thereon a group of electrodes for liquid crystal drive, and a layer of ferroelectric liquid crystal disposed between the substrates, wherein thermosetting adhesive particles and thermoplastic polymer particles having a diameter which is 1.5-5 times the liquid crystal layer thickness are dispersed and pressed between the substrates. The polymer particles preferably have a glass transition temperature of at most -20.degree. C.

    摘要: A liquid crystal device is constituted by a pair of oppositely disposed substrates having opposing inner surfaces and opposing electrodes thereon, and a chiral smectic liquid crystal disposed between the opposing electrodes. The liquid crystal device has an effective optical modulation region and a peripheral region outside the effective optical modulation region. In the device, liquid crystal molecules in the peripheral region have a pretilt angle which is larger than a pretilt angle of liquid crystal molecules in the effective optical modulation region. As a result, a local pressure irregularity or a cell thickness change caused by a liquid crystal molecular movement along an extension of the device is effectively suppressed.
