A monitoring device and a monitoring method for an injection molding machine, in which a trend chart is displayed on a common axis so that changes of set values of molding conditions and changes of measured values of monitoring items can be grasped correspondingly. A history of the measured values of the monitoring items is stored, and a change history of the set values of the molding conditions is also stored. An operator sets monitoring items and molding condition items to be displayed. In doing this, the operator sets a display range such that molding condition items having changed set values within the display range are displayed and selected. Alternatively, coefficients of correlation between the measured values of the selected monitoring items and the set values of the molding conditions are obtained, and the molding condition items are displayed in the order of priority of correlation and selected. For example, a metering time, minimum cushion amount, and peak pressure are selected as the monitoring items, and a first stage injection speed and barrel 3 temperature as the molding condition items. Thus, the trend chart is displayed with a time base on its abscissa axis, and the influence of the set values on the measured values can be grasped with ease.

A display apparatus for an injection molding machine which permits setting items unalterable during operation of the injection molding machine to be identified on the screen. When the injection molding machine is not in operation, the setting items on the screen are shown in a normal first display appearance. During operation of the machine, unalterable setting items, among the setting items on the screen, are shown in a second display appearance to be distinguished from the first display appearance. Since setting items that are normally alterable but should not be altered during operation of the injection molding machine are displayed in the second display appearance in a distinguishable manner, such setting items can be clearly identified, thus improving operability.

A method of analyzing factors affecting the product quality performs adjustment of molding conditions for an injection molding machine. Data effective to discriminate the product quality is properly selected, and molding conditions for eliminating a molding abnormality are easily determined for an appropriate adjustment of the molding conditions. First and second principal component axes are defined by obtaining correlation coefficients indicating correlations of variations of plural conditions related to an injection molding operation, and performing a principal component analysis. Points representing dispersion of various conditions with respect to each principal component axis, are plotted on a rectangular coordinate system. The characteristic of variation tendency of data of the various conditions is synthetically evaluated on the basis of the first and second principal components which are most affecting the variation of data of the various conditions. The selection of the detected data for discriminating the product quality and the molding conditions to be adjusted is made easy, so that the discrimination of the product quality and adjustment of the molding conditions are simplified.

A display controller for an injection molding machine which can display a large amount of information or display characters, etc. in a manner that they are easy to read, according to need, to provide good operability. The apparatus has main frames MD for setting molding conditions and displaying actual measurement values, and subsidiary frames SD for displaying data representing the conditions of the injection molding machine. A first display mode for displaying only one main frame MD selected, a second display mode for displaying a selected main frame MD in a reduced size with one or more subsidiary frames SD1, SD2 selected, and a third display mode for displaying a plurality of main frames MD selected are provided, where a switchover between the first, second and third display modes can be carried out. In the first display mode, characters, etc. are displayed in a large size, so that data displayed can be clearly read. In the third display mode, a large amount of information is displayed and hence can be monitored on the screen at a time. In the second display mode, the size of characters is medium and the amount of information is medium. An optimal display mode is selected according to need.
