The gum solution contains at least one polycarboxylic acid—which may be a polymer—that beneficially desensitizes the surface after the unexposed photopolymer layer is removed.

In various embodiments, the developer and gum solution have different compositions but contain at least one polycarboxylic acid—which may be a polymer—that beneficially desensitizes the surface after the unexposed photopolymer layer is removed.
