A method for providing a planning framework for use in managing a material flow of products in a supply chain. According to the method, subsequent instances of said material flow are associated with linked documents in a document flow. In a prior document, first relations are established identifying one or more dependent documents, for producing one or more products in a next instance of said material flow. Said prior document is converted into said next document in a forward way. According to the invention, the method comprises establishing in said next document the first relations identifying said one or more dependent documents, so as to convert said next document into said prior document in a reverse way. In this way, fixed relations can be preserved between product requirements and products while changing the material flow.

A system and method are described for performing bucket-oriented capacity checks on resources to determine whether activities can be processed prior to a desired delivery date. For example, a method according to one embodiment of the invention comprises: subdividing a supply chain scheduling timeline for a particular resource into a plurality of time-buckets, each of the time buckets having a specified time period and a specified total capacity supply, the total capacity supply comprising utilized capacity supply which has been consumed by previously-scheduled activities and unutilized capacity supply which is available for processing new activities; in response to receiving a customer request for a specified activity to be completed by a desired date, determining if sufficient unutilized capacity supply exists within one of the time-buckets prior to the desired date; scheduling the specified activity on the resource within the time period defined by a particular time-bucket if sufficient unutilized capacity exists within the time-bucket; and reducing the unutilized capacity by an amount of capacity supply consumed by the specified activity.

A first part of a test can be executed in a tenant currently having a first system state. The tenant can be transitioned from the first system state to a second system state. The transitioning can have an unknown effect on a business process or business scenario running in the tenant. A second part of the test can be executed in the tenant while the tenant is in the second system state. Upon completion of the test, it can be determined whether the transition of the tenant from the first system state to the second system state negatively impacts the running of the business process or business scenario.
