Part of the control port is open over the inner and outer parts, as taken in the widthwise direction, of the annular groove. An electromagnetic actuator includes a housing and a pair of stators cooperating with the housing to form a magnetic circuit for a solenoid. Each of the pair of stators has a tubular portion, and the tubular portions of the pair of stators have their one ends disposed in the opposed spaced relation to each other. The solenoid is mounted around the tubular portions of the pair of stators, and an armature is received in the tubular portions of the pair of stators so as to be movable along the axis of the tubular portions. The armature is supplied with a force when an electric current is applied to the solenoid. In order to keep the magnetic resistance of the magnetic circuit to a low level, one of the pair of stators is formed integrally with one end of a tubular body of the housing so that the housing and the one stator constitute a unitary member.

A magnetic toner for MICR printers is provided with a binder resin, magnetic powder, and metal oxide particles which are in the outer surface of each toner base particle made from the binder resin and the magnetic powder, the metal oxide particles having a volume resistivity of 1×105 to 1×1011 &OHgr;·cm. A developer containing this MICR toner makes it possible to provide superior image density and reading precision, even after 150,000 to 300,000 sheets of A-4 paper have been continuously printed.

A magnetic toner for a MICR printer containing a binder resin and a magnetic powder is prepared in such a way that the magnetic powder includes a first magnetic powder having a residual magnetization value within a range of 24 to 40 emu/g and a second magnetic powder having a residual magnetization value within a range of 1 to 24 emu/g (but exclusive of 24 m.sup.2 /g) and that the residual magnetization value of the magnetic toner for a MICR printer is within a range of 7.0 to 20 emu/g (but exclusive of 7.0 emu/g).
