To perform address mapping, a configuration client determines port numbers required for a network service and a network address conversion unit converts external network addresses into internal network addresses and vice versa. A configuration server requests required port numbers from the network address conversion unit which directly provides the network service with an external network address with the required port number. A direct telephone book search in the telephone data bank of the server by a dedicated protocol is initiated by the telephone by transmission of search criteria. The telephone receives in exchange the search results and can understand the semantics of the search results based on markings in the dedicated protocol, such that the data of the search result can be used directly for telephone-specific operations. For example, outgoing telephone calls, storage in a local telephone book and determination of call number information on incoming telephone calls may be performed at the telephone using the search results.

The present disclosure provides optimal network performance and network illumination in a wireless, autonomous communications network with a dynamic network topology achieved by auto-configuration. Functional alogorthemic enhancements of the communications network are used, enabling the communications network to automatically determine the current network configuration and the accessibility of the transceivers that are associated with the communications network by using measurements and to determine the optimal position of a master station at any one time from the data obtained from the measurements.
