Abstract: The instant disclosure relates to methods for treating chemically relaxed hair. The methods include applying a neutralizing composition to the chemically relaxed hair, the neutralizing composition comprising: at least 0.5 wt. % of at least one carboxylic acid, one or more C2-C6 monoalkanolamines, and water. The neutralizing composition is allowed to remain on the hair for a period of time. The hair is also treated with a neutralizing conditioner, which is a different than the neutralizing composition. The neutralizing conditioner includes: at least 0.5 wt. % of at least one carboxylic acid, one or more C2-C6 monoalkanolamines, one or more cationic surfactants, and water. The neutralizing conditioner is allowed to remain on the hair for a period of time. After treatment with a neutralizing composition and a neutralizing conditioner, the hair may be further treated with a shampoo, a conditioner, a conditioning shampoo, etc., dried, and/or styled.

Abstract: The instant disclosure relates to methods and kits that improve the cosmetic properties of hair, especially hair treated with a chemical relaxer composition. The methods entail treating hair with a combination of different hair-treatment compositions. For example, hair (especially chemical relaxed hair) is treated with a hair-treatment composition comprising at least 0.5 wt. %, based on the total weight of the hair-treatment composition, of at least one non-polymeric mono, di, or tricarboxylic acid, and/or a salt thereof; one or more amines; and water. The hair is subsequently treated with an auxiliary composition, which includes one or more polyurethane latex polymers. Hair treated according to the disclosed methods, especially chemically relaxed hair, exhibits improved style-control and discipline, frizz control, smoothness, softness, and strength.

Abstract: The instant disclosure relates to methods for treating hair, for example, methods for imparting desirable cosmetic properties to the hair, especially hair treated with a chemical treatment composition. The methods include: applying a hair-treatment composition to chemically treated hair, for example, within 30 minutes from when a chemical treatment composition is rinsed from the hair, the hair-treatment composition comprising: one or more polyurethane latex polymers; and rinsing the hair-treatment composition from the hair within 30 minutes from applying the hair-treatment composition to the hair. After rinsing the hair-treatment composition from the hair, the hair may be subsequently dried and styled.
