Abstract: A method for screening a solvent for extracting polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from waste using the following Equation 1: PVC swelling score = x 1 Dipole + x 2 Asphericity + x 3 dH + x 4 Polar Surface Area where x1, x2, x3, and x4 are each a real number from 0 to 5, Dipole is a dipole moment of solvent molecules, Asphericity is an asphericity of the solvent molecules, dH is a Hansen solubility parameter for a hydrogen bonding of the solvent molecules, and Polar Surface Area is a fractional polar surface area. A method for recycling waste is also provided. Additionally, a recycled polyvinyl chloride and a recycled composition are provided.

A method for recycling waste having ABS including screening the solvent using Equation 1 and extracting the ABS from the waste using the screened solvent is also provided. Additionally, a recycled acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer and a recycled acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer composition are provided.
