摘要: Methods of carbohydrate acetylation are disclosed. A method may include adding a carbohydrate to a reaction vessel, adding poly-4-vinylpyriding (P4VP) to the reaction vessel, adding a bio-derived solvent to the reaction vessel, adding acetic anhydride (Ac20) to the reaction vessel, and adding a catalyst to the reaction vessel. The bio-derived solvent may be 2-methyltetrahydrofuran (2-MeTHF). A catalyst may also be added to the reaction vessel.

摘要: Methods and systems of the present invention use mixed textile feedstock, which may include post-consumer waste garments, scrap fabric and/or other textile materials as a raw feed material to produce isolated cellulose and other isolated molecules having desirable properties that can be used and be used in the textile and apparel industries, and in other industries. A multi-stage process is provided, in which mixed textile feed material is subjected to one or more pretreatment stages, followed by at least two pulping treatments for isolating cellulose molecules and other molecular constituents, such as polyester. The isolated cellulose and polyester molecules may be used in a variety of downstream applications. In one application, isolated cellulose and polyester molecules are extruded to provide regenerated cellulose fibers and regenerated polyester fibers having desirable (and selectable) properties that are usable in various industrial applications, including textile production.

摘要: Devices and methods for the high-pressure treatment of bulk material by extraction and/or impregnation. The bulk material is arranged in the interior volume of a pressure vessel device and is treated at a high pressure while sealed off from the surroundings. The high-pressure treatment is performed batchwise in a closed system in the pressure vessel device in a pressure-tight fashion. The bulk material is fed batchwise to the interior volume with the pressure vessel device closed and being arranged on at least one treatment level and, after the high-pressure treatment has occurred, being discharged batchwise from the interior volume with the pressure vessel device closed. The invention furthermore relates to the use of a supporting tray module with at least one treatment level for the high-pressure treatment in a closed system.

摘要: Described herein are systems and methods for the depolymerization of polyethylene-based plastics. In one embodiment, a method is disclosed that comprises combining a polyethylene-based plastic with a solvent in a reactor to generate a plastic solvent mixture, heating the plastic solvent mixture in the reactor, and fractionating the plastic solvent mixture into a gas phase product, a solid phase product, and a liquid phase product. In another embodiment, a system is disclosed that comprises a solvent, and a reactor configured to receive the polyethylene-based plastic and the solvent and convert the polyethylene-based plastic into a gas phase product, a solid phase product, and a liquid phase product, the reactor being configured to operate at a temperature greater than 275° C. and at a pressure greater than 2 megapascals.

摘要: The invention provides a clog-free condensation system for a pyrolysis apparatus used in the thermal degradation of waste plastics that contain polyethylene terephthalate (PET). A conduit carries vapor from a pyrolysis reactor to a condenser having an inlet for an oil-immiscible solvent stream; a liquid outlet for removal of the oil-immiscible solvent, benzoic acid, and other condensed pyrolysates; and a vapor outlet to pass uncondensed vapors. A liquid-liquid phase separator connected to the liquid outlet continuously separates the two immiscible phases. Benzoic acid is precipitated and removed from the oil-immiscible phase, and the oil-immiscible solvent is returned to the condenser as a solvent stream. The invention provides a method for condensing PET pyrolysis vapors without formation of clogs in the condensation apparatus, and provides a method for the continuous recovery of benzoic acid and other condensable pyrolysates from a PET-containing waste plastic stream.

摘要: A method for purifying a contaminated reclaimed HDPE is provided. The method comprises obtaining the contaminated reclaimed HDPE, extracting it with a solvent to produce an extracted contaminated reclaimed HDPE, and then dissolving it in the solvent to produce a first suspension comprising dissolved HDPE and suspended contaminants. The first suspension is settled to produce a second suspension comprising dissolved HDPE and suspended remaining contaminants, and the second suspension is purified by contacting it with solid media to produce a third suspension comprising purer HDPE. Finally, the purer HDPE is separated from the third suspension and it has natural-like optical properties.

摘要: There are provided processes for recycling waste such as polystyrene thermoplastic polymer waste and/or polystyrene thermoplastic copolymer waste as well as recycled polystyrene thermoplastic polymer and/or recycled thermoplastic copolymer that may, for example, be obtained from such processes. The processes can comprise dissolving the waste in cymene, xylene or ethylbenzene or a suitable solvent, to obtain a mixture followed by heating the mixture under acidic conditions and then optionally neutral conditions in the presence of a reducing agent then cooling to obtain a supernatant comprising polystyrene thermoplastic polymer and/or polystyrene thermoplastic copolymer and a solid waste residue. The supernatant can optionally be treated with a filtration aid, then the supernatant can be contacted with a hydrocarbon polystyrene non-solvent under conditions to obtain precipitated polystyrene thermoplastic polymer and/or precipitated polystyrene thermoplastic copolymer which can be washed with additional hydrocarbon polystyrene non-solvent, and optionally dried and formed into polystyrene thermoplastic polymer pellets and/or polystyrene thermoplastic copolymer pellets.
