    Abstract: A foldable display device includes a display panel which includes a folding area and non-folding areas on some sides of the folding area, and a hinge unit which is disposed in an area corresponding to the folding area below the display panel to in-fold or out-fold the display panel. The hinge unit includes a plurality of rotary shafts and a plurality of coupling links disposed between the plurality of rotary shafts. Accordingly, the foldable display device can be bi-directionally (e.g., inwardly or outwardly) folded by the hinge unit with a simple structure. Further, a radius of curvature during the folding can be desirably changed by adjusting a component of the hinge unit, for example, a number of the plurality of rotary shafts and the plurality of coupling links, a cross-sectional length, and the like.

    Abstract: A flexible display device includes: a display panel including a folding area and a non-folding area; and a back plate which includes a base layer which supports the display panel, below the display panel and includes a plurality of grooves on a bottom surface corresponding to the folding area and a filler which is filled in at least a part of the plurality of grooves, and the filler includes a metal fiber. According to the exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure, components such as a plate top, a plate bottom, and a damping layer are not included, but a mechanical property such as impact resistance is satisfied and the thickness of the display device is minimized so that the folding characteristic and the reliability are significantly improved. Therefore, a flexible display device having a larger curvature than that of the related art may be easily implemented.

The display panel includes spacers disposed in a non-folding area and a folding area, and the spacers may have different sizes or densities. Dimensions of the spacers may be in a direction of the folding axis or intersect the direction of the folding axis. The display panel also includes pixels in an active area that overlap with the spacers, which may help reduce peeling, cracking, defects, or reduction in pixel brightness due to folding of the display device.
