摘要: An apparatus and method for joining adjacent members, wherein the members are placed in an overlapping layered relationship. The members are clamped between a die and a blank holder. Once clamped, a clinching operation is performed on the members to create at least a partial bond between them. In addition to the clinching operation, a level of vibrational energy is imparted to at least one of the members to reduce clamping force requirements, promote material flow and deformation and provide increased joint strength.

摘要: A fuel injector. The fuel injector includes a fuel channel configured to receive pressurized gaseous fuel from a fuel rail, and a nozzle in fluid communication with the fuel channel. The fuel injector also includes a pintle having an opened position and a closed position, wherein pressurized gaseous fuel is delivered from the nozzle when the pintle is in the opened position and wherein introduction of the pressurized gaseous fuel is substantially blocked when the pintle is in the closed position. A support aligns the pintle with the nozzle. A pintle controller is configured to selectively move the pintle between the closed position and the opened position.

摘要: A method of preparing metal surfaces for thermally applied coatings by electrical discharge, which method controllably provides greater roughness for increased mechanical coating adhesion, avoids carbon deposits and is more economical to use. The method comprises melting and rapidly solidifying globules of the metal surface by spark erosion, the spark erosion occurring by incidence of an electrical discharge between an electrode and the metal surface closely spaced thereto, the spacing having an electrolyte with plasma forming capabilities, the discharge resulting from application of an electrical current to the electrode with a DC voltage in the range of 60-85 volts and amperage in the range of 50-110 amps, the current being pulsed on for periods of 150-300 micro seconds per spark.
