摘要: Video communications systems and methods video communications between user terminals in networks that are separated by a firewall. A first user terminal establishes a persistent connection with its proxy that is on the other side of a firewall protecting the terminal. Other terminals can conduct video calls or conferences with the first user terminal via the persistent connection. A terminal database server maintains information about each terminal, such as their addresses, and assists with establishing each video call or conference.

摘要: A video conferencing method utilizes video data from cameras situated at the respective locations of user terminals. The video data from each of the cameras is provided to a user terminals, where it is processed into a compressed video data stream by software installed and executed in the user terminal. The compressed video data streams are provided to a multi-point control unit that switches them into output video data streams without decompressing them. Each user terminal receives, decompresses and displays a selected combination of said decompressed output video data streams according to a selection by the user of the user terminal.
