摘要: The present invention includes a fuel distributor for a fuel nozzle in a gas turbine engine comprising an inner tubular body and an outer tubular body respectively having an outer body inner surface and an inner body outer surface adapted to be in sealing contact one with the other, at least two helical fuel channels defined in at least one of the inner and outer surfaces and being in fluid communication with a fuel inlet, and a channel exit port for each helical fuel channel. The present invention also includes a method of distributing fuel in a fuel nozzle comprising the steps of providing at least two helical channels in the fuel nozzle, each having a channel exit port, providing a fuel inlet cavity in fluid communication with the helical channels, and flowing fuel in the fuel inlet cavity, the helical channels and the channel exit ports.

摘要: A multiple conduit system for a gas turbine engine, the multiple conduit system extending between a plurality of conduit inlet and outlets. A channel is formed in a surface of a gas turbine engine component, and the channel is adapted for conveying a fluid flow from an inlet to an outlet. At least a first sealing member is disposed within the channel and divides the channel into at least a first discrete conduit and a second discrete conduit. A second sealing member encloses the channel to define the second discrete conduit. The first and second discrete conduits are each adapted to direct an independent fluid flow from respective inlets to respective outlets.

摘要: The invention relates to an air purge system for preventing coke buildup in gas turbine engine fuel injectors, and in particular in the relatively small orifice pressure atomizers of a primary fuel injector. The inventors have recognized that after engine shutdown, residual engine heat is sufficient to cause fuel on wetted surfaces of the injectors to decompose and deposit coke. Especially critical are small orifices in injectors positioned towards the upper side of an engine, since rising hot gases accumulate and heat the upper engine area significantly for a long period after engine shutdown. Coke buildup leads to narrowing of the fuel injector orifices, and without adequate maintenance leads to uneven burning and eventually can incapacitate the engine. Fuel injectors are often located in relatively inaccessible interior portions of the engine. Extending the service life of an injector can result in significant maintenance cost savings and engine downtime. The air purge system is activated on engine shutdown to continuously exhaust cooling air through the injector orifices for an extended purge period after shutdown, for example 1-1.5 hours. A battery operated air blower connected to the fuel line forces cooling air through the injector until a thermocouple switch deactivates the blower on sensing an injector temperature below 150.degree. F. At this low temperature, coke formation does not occur and during engine operation efficient combustion minimizes coke formation. The invention provides the following benefits: (1) fuel is completely purged over an extended period from the injector; (2) backflow of combustion gases into the injector is impeded by continuous positive pressure and air flow out of the injector; (3) the fuel wetted surfaces of the injectors are more completely dried after long term exposure to purging air flow; and (4) the injectors are air cooled after engine shutdown to maintain injector temperature below the temperature at which coke formation will occur.

摘要: A fuel air heat exchanger for a gas turbine engine having fuel and air conduits in heat exchange relationship with one another, and a distribution conduit in heat exchange relationship with a component to be cooled. The distribution conduit is in fluid communication with the outlet of each air conduit. The heat exchanger also includes a secondary air inlet in fluid communication with the distribution conduit and a flow selection member selectively movable between first and second configurations. In the first configuration, the flow selection member closes the fluid communication between the secondary inlet and the distribution conduit. In the second configuration, the flow selection member opens the fluid communication between the secondary air inlet and the distribution conduit.
