Abstract: A process for preparing a deuterated organic compound includes the following steps:



a) providing at least one heterogeneous metal catalyst, wherein the providing comprises drying of the metal catalyst;
b) preparing a liquid composition comprising at least one organic compound, the at least one heterogeneous metal catalyst, at least one deuterium source, and at least one aliphatic hydrocarbon as solvent, and
c) heating the composition to deuterate the organic compound.
