A silver halide color photosensitive material which forms a cyan dye that has superior heat resistance and that will not readily fade in a reducing atmosphere. The silver halide color photosensitive material contains in at least one layer on a support at least one coupler represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents hydrogen atom or a substituent; R.sup.2 represents a substituent; X represents hydrogen atom or a group releasable on a coupling reaction with an oxidation product of a color developing agent; Z.sup.1 represents a nonmetallic atom group necessary for forming a nitrogen-containing, six-membered, heterocyclic ring which has at least one dissociative group: Z.sup.1 cannot be --C(.dbd.O)--N(R)--C(.dbd.O)--NH--; and R represents a substituent.Also disclosed is a novel dye forming coupler which exhibits a high coupling activity and which gives a dye having a large molar extinction coefficient and superior stability, the coupler being represented by the following formula (XX) or (XXI). The present invention relates to a novel color coupler for photography and a silver halide color photographic material comprising the same, wherein the color coupler is one of the .beta.,.gamma.-unsaturated nitriles represented by formula (I). The invention provides for a color coupler, particularly a cyan coupler, which forms color images less in subsidiary absorption, good in color reproduction, and excellent in fastness, and a silver halide color photographic material having color images as described above. Further the color coupler can be synthesized from inexpensive raw material at a low cost ##STR1## wherein W represents a hydrogen atom or a group capable of being released when the compound is subjected to a coupling reaction with the oxidized product of an aromatic primary amine derivative, R.sub.1 represents a represents a nitrogen atom, R.sub.2 represents a substituent, if V represents ##STR2## R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each represent substituent, provided that at least one of R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 represents an electron attractive substituent, and provided that if R.sub.2 or R.sub.3 represents an aliphatic group or an aromatic group, the other does not represent an acyl group, and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 may bond together to form a ring.
