    摘要: A connector and receptacle therefor used preferably to link a number of remote devices in daisy chain fashion by the joining of a plurality of separate cable segments. The cable segments may contain electrical conductors, optical conductor fibers, or a hybrid thereof. Each cable segment ends with a connector. Each cable segment is serially linked to the next through a joining of pairs of connectors to form a unified connector. By the formation of the unified connectors, the plurality of cable segments are serially joined into what is effectively a single piece harness. Each remote device is connected to a unified connector through a receptacle which receives the unified connector. In order to secure a daisy chaining effect between remote devices, a shunt for electrically connecting similarly functioning conductors in the connectors of each unified connector may be provided in the receptacle.

    摘要: An improved apparatus for the on site spectrometric analysis of metallic parts in an air gap is disclosed. The apparatus essentially comprises a probe to be positioned on the part, a mobile unit including a current-pulse generator for the probe to excite the part for analysis of its chemical composition in a direct reading optical emission spectrometer contained in the unit, and a flexible optical cable coupling the probe to the unit. The probe is designed for use on both flat and round parts, such as bars, billets, pipes, rods or wires as small as having a radius of one mm. The probe features an adjustable counter electrode, an inner sleeve serving as a contact electrode and an outer sleeve axially movable about the inner electrode and having a positioning V-groove. The probe further includes an electro-mechanical interlock to prevent accidental discharge thereof, and a self-cleaning mechanism for its sensor head. The current pulse generator, controlled by a computer, provides the probe with reliable sequential high voltage ignition pulses, each followed by a high energy discharge at remote distances and in three modes: a preburn made to clean the surface of the part and the surfaces of the electrodes, a precision carbon analysis mode to yield accurate carbon analyses in concentrations as low as 0.05% and with the same degree of accuracy, and an all key elements save carbon analysis mode to yield results with an accuracy of better than .+-.5%. Preferably, the mobile unit features a keyboard, a visual display and a printer to display and to record the analyzed data. Preferably, the apparatus is provided with a mobile power generator.

    摘要: High performance data cables are provided that allows for future growth in networking speeds. The high performance data cables achieve this result while satisfying the dimensional requirements set by the EIA/TIA 568-A standards as well as fire performance safety requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). High performance data cables of this invention achieve the above by controlling parameters that influence impedance performance, near-end crosstalk performance and attenuation. A separating filler material is used to maximize the pair-to-pair distance while maintaining an overall maximum outside diameter of 0.250". This construction benefits crosstalk performance, as both electrical and magnetic field intensities are inversely related to distance and dielectric constant (crosstalk is made up of capacitative and inductive coupling, with inductive coupling becoming significant at frequencies above 50 MHz). Balancing between parameters that influence impedance, near-end crosstalk and attenuation performance by choice of materials and physical dimensions of the filler material, insulation material, jacket material and conductor, the overall performance of the data cable of this invention is achieved. A standard for the high performance data cables of this invention is also disclosed.

    摘要: A direct fire ignition system for an internal combustion engine having a coil assembly attachable to each spark plug. Each coil assembly has a high voltage transformer for producing a voltage sufficient to cause the spark plug to generate a spark, an integral capacitor parallel with the spark plug, and a spark plug sensor circuit coupling to the high voltage transformer for generating a spark confirmation signal when a spark is generated. The spark sensor circuit is responsive to a high frequency signal generated in the high voltage transformer within a predetermined frequency range to generate the spark confirmation signal. The direct fire ignition system is compatible with single strike or multi-strike modes of operation. The system can also generate a probe voltage across the spark plug to test for auto or pre-ignition.

    摘要: A hybrid cable connector system for transmitting electrical power and multiplexed information signals between remotely located devices. The hybrid cable connector system has a plurality of serially connected connector cables. Each of the connector cables have at least one metal conductor for transmitting electrical power and at least one optical fiber for transmitting the multiplexed information signals. The connector at one end of each connector cable has a light source for converting electrical signals to light signals which are transmitted by the optical fiber to the connector at the other end of the connector cable. The connector at the other end of the connector cable has a photodetector for converting light signals back to electrical signals. The connections at both ends of the connector cable are totally electrical. In the preferred embodiment, the connector cable has two optical fibers, each having a light source and a photodetector disposed at its opposite ends permitting information signals to be transmitted through the connector cable in both directions. The cable connector system may include interface modules connected between the connector cables and the remotely located devices. Each interface module has a control module for extracting the desired information signal from the multiplexed signals being transmitted by the hybrid cable connector system.
