摘要: A method for reducing edge effect (white gapping) between objects formed on a photoconductive member of an imaging device includes, during processing of a given color plane, partially exposing the photoconductive member for all image data that specifies a color to be developed on at least one color plane but that specifies no color to be developed on the given color plane. As such, the partial exposing does not enable development of that image data during image processing of the given color plane. By partially exposing objects that do not include a color to be developed on the color plane currently being processed, and while normally exposing adjacent objects that include a color to be developed on the current color plane, the lateral electric field effects between the objects is reduced and, thus, toner development for the given color plane is more edge precise for reduced white gapping between the objects.

摘要: A method of aligning duplex images on an imaging device such as a printer or copier includes duplex imaging a test sheet having indicia on each side of the sheet that communicate, when observed in a single visual context, duplex imaging adjustment parameters for the imaging device. The method further includes modifying imaging parameters of the imaging device based on the duplex imaging adjustment parameters communicated. The indicia on each side of the sheet are seen in a single visual context by observing certain of the indicia through the media, as when the media is held up to a light source. In a preferred embodiment, the indicia on each side of the sheet includes respective portions of a vernier scale. The imaging parameters are modified by entering the adjustment parameters at a control panel of the imaging device. Imaging parameters modified include timing parameters associated with the process of writing data on the imaging device. In addition to the method, an imaging device includes components, data and executable instructions necessary for implementing the above described method.

The fusing system includes a fuser roller, a pressure roller arranged parallel to the fuser roller for providing pressure to a medium passing between the fuser roller and the pressure roller, and a heater external to the fuser roller and applying heat to the fuser roller when the heater is operated to apply heat. The fusing system also includes a control mechanism that the controls the heater to reduce heat provided by the heater when the temperature of the heater is determined to be above a predetermined maximum heater temperature.

摘要: Embodiments of a material-moving electrophotography roller are shown and described, each embodiment having an outer surface having ridges. The ridges may extend in right-handed or left-handed orientation, or in other angled (non-radial and non-horizontal) manner. The ridges lie in such a pattern so that the ridges move material radially over the roller or against a restrictive surface, and so that there are no gaps in the contact between the ridges and the material or the restrictive surface during a revolution of the roller. The roller is preferably made of a shaft covered by a sleeve or tube of non-disintegrating material with external ridges. The ridged tube is twisted and secured to the shaft so that the ridges run preferably and substantially at a 45.degree.-75.degree. angle from perpendicular to the roller axis. Alternatively, a monofilament line or other non-disintegrating cord may be wrapped and secured around a cylinder to create the ridges and troughs necessary for material movement and for distribution of the time of engagement of the ridges on material or surfaces.

The fusing system includes a fuser roller including a metal layer, a pressure roller in contact with the fuser roller, and an external induction heating element. In addition, the disclosure relates to a method for heating a fuser roller of a fusing system including the steps of positioning an external induction heating element in close proximity to the outer surface of the fuser roller, delivering high frequency current to a coil of the external induction heating element to create a magnetic flux, and directing the magnetic flux toward the fuser roller so as to induce eddy currents within a metal layer of the fuser roller that generate heat within the roller.

摘要: A method for reducing edge effect (white gapping) between objects formed on a photoconductive member of an imaging device includes, during processing of a given color plane, under exposing (partially exposing) the photoconductive member for image data that specifies a color to be developed on at least one color plane but specifies no color to be developed on the given color plane. Under exposing occurs relative to a development threshold for the image processing of the given color plane. As such, the under exposing does not enable development of that image data during image processing of the given color plane. The under exposing occurs relative to a high frequency halftone screen for minimizing contamination (unwanted development) during the partial exposure. A half tone screen switching process enables appropriate halftone exposure for objects embodying the given color plane, and enables the necessary under exposure (utilizing the high frequency halftone screen) for objects not embodying the given color plane.

摘要: A temperature differential over a length of a fuser can result from a thermal load applied to the fuser by media having a dimension, corresponding to a longitudinal axis of the fuser, less then the length of the fuser. The temperature on regions of the surface of the fuser contacting the media is lower than on regions of the surface not contacting the media. With feedback used to control the fuser surface temperature near its center, the fuser surface temperature in regions not contacting the media can become hot enough to damage the fuser. With a heat pipe included in the fuser, heat flows from the higher temperature regions on the surface of the fuser to the lower temperature regions on the surface of the fuser, thereby reducing the peak magnitude of the fuser surface temperature and the magnitude of the temperature differential over the length of the fuser.

摘要: A charge roller displacement mechanism prevents the build up of a sharply defined circumferential ring of contaminants on the surface of a charge roller in an electrophotographic printing system, thereby reducing the severity of the print defect caused by the contaminants. By cyclically laterally displacing the charge roller parallel to the longitudinal axis of a photoconductor drum as the photoconductor drum rotates, contaminants which reach the surface of the charge roller will not form a sharply defined circumferential ring that interferes with the uniform charging of a photoconductor drum charged by the charge roller. The charge roller displacement mechanism includes a first gear that engages the gear used to rotate paddles in a waste hopper of an electrophotographic printer cartridge. A second gear engages the first gear to provide a reduction of approximately 400 to 1. The charge roller is forced against a face of the second gear by a spring or, alternatively, by angling the longitudinal axis of the charge roller with respect to the longitudinal axis of the photoconductor drum. The face of the second gear contacting the charge roller includes a lobe. As the second gear rotates, the charge roller is laterally displaced across the surface of the photoconductor drum. The lobe is shaped so that one rotation of the second gear corresponds to one cycle of displacement of the charge roller.
