摘要: An imaging apparatus includes a print engine for printing an image on a sheet of media. A sheet feed mechanism is configured to feed the sheet of media through the print engine. A controller is communicatively coupled to the sheet feed mechanism and the print engine to operate the sheet feed mechanism and the print engine in a selected one of a plurality of operation modes. The plurality of operation modes include a continuum representing a plurality of traditional printing modes, the continuum being defined in terms of print quality versus mode throughput rate wherein a decrease in print quality corresponds to an increase in mode throughput rate. A Green Mode is located outside the continuum.

摘要: A toy mailbox for children includes a storage unit and a media processing mechanism. The storage unit includes a door member for closeably opening the storage unit and an ejection slot configured on a portion of the storage unit. The media processing mechanism is coupled to the storage unit, such that the media processing mechanism is capable of dispensing a media sheet having data content printed thereon, into the storage unit through the ejection slot. Opening the storage unit enables children to access the media sheet from within the storage unit. The media processing mechanism is also capable of printing the data content on the media sheet prior to dispensing the media sheet into the storage unit.

摘要: Electromigration within heater resistors of printheads is prevented by taking into account a resistance degradation characteristic of the heater resistors. In one method a burn in operation of the printhead heater resistors is provided in order to bring the heater resistor resistance to a substantially stable resistance value. Alternatively, a method of controlling firing of a heater resistor within a printhead of an ink jet printer involves establishing a desired current density or maximum acceptable current density for the heater resistor. A resistance of the heater resistor is thereafter monitored during printing operations. Based at least in part upon the monitored resistance, a firing voltage across the heater resistor is adjusted in order to maintain the desired current density through the heater resistor or in order to hold current density through the heater resistor at or below the maximum acceptable current density.

摘要: A system and method for monitoring media stack height utilizes a pick mechanism and stack height sensing mechanism. The pick mechanism has a pick arm and a pick roller, the arm rotatably mounted at one end to pivot about an axis and change its angular position relative thereto. The roller rotatably mounted to an opposite end of the arm contacts a media stack top and is rotatably driven to feed sheets one at a time from the stack top changing the stack height. The angular position of the arm relative to the stack changes as the stack height changes. The stack height sensing mechanism arranged on and adjacent to the arm senses arm angular displacement as the stack height changes to provide an indication of the sheet quantity remaining in the stack. A method for calibrating stack height sensing of the monitoring system provides one or more calibration points such as at “full stack” and “stack out” conditions.

摘要: A method of the invention is for operating a media feed motor of a printer to perform a media feed move of a predetermined distance and includes steps a) through c). Step a) includes choosing a position-error scale factor for a media feed move that is within a range of distances. Step b) includes calculating a media-feed-motor drive signal which includes a position error contribution substantially equal to the product of the position-error scale factor and the difference between a desired final media position at the end of a media feed move and the actual media position. Step c) includes modifying the position error contribution in step b) to reduce its effect when the predetermined distance is greater than the maximum distance within the range but not when the predetermined distance is less than the maximum distance within the range.

摘要: An inkjet printer having an envelope comer printing apparatus that prints print data on the comer of an envelope independently from the printing function performed by the printer with respect to the sheet media printed by the printer. The printer housing includes a slot in a front corner positioned to receive an envelope corner for purposes of printing print data such as a return address or postage on the envelope corner. The printhead of the printer is capable of being positioned over the slot in the front corner of the printer housing and a sensor located within the printer housing near the slot detects the insertion of the envelope corner and initiates printing by the printhead. The printhead prints the print data from the non-volatile memory of the printer and does not require constant interfacing between the printer and the computer attached to the printer.
