摘要: A method and system are provided for 3-D acoustic microscopy using short pulse laser excitation. A 3-D acoustic microscope for use in such a system is also provided. In a first embodiment, wherein optical detection is utilized, a focused excitation beam is scanned by a first acoustooptic scanning device across an absorbing layer of an opto-acoustic transducer (if needed) coupled to an object under investigation to create spherical ultrasonic waves within the object which may be living tissue. The reflected spherical ultrasonic waves are detected through the use of an unfocused probe beam and an optical detector array or a focused probe beam and a single photodetector which receive the probe beam from a reflecting surface of the opto-acoustic transducer. A second acoustooptic scanning device scans the probe beam at a plurality of positions on the reflecting surface of the opto-acoustic transducer. In another embodiment, an ultrasound transducer is utilized to acoustically detect the reflected spherical ultrasonic waves. Signals from the optical detector array, the photodetector, or the ultrasound transducer are subsequently digitized and reconstructed via 3-D synthetic aperture beam-forming equations to generate a 3-D representation of the object. Then the 3-D representation of the image is displayed as an image. The microscope includes the first and second acoustooptic scanning devices and the opto-acoustic transducer housed in a housing to define a needle probe such as a conventional biopsy needle.

摘要: An opto-acoustic detector includes a fiber laser having a cavity which includes an optical fiber having an active medium portion doped with a gain material so that the detector may be used in high frequency, high density arrays. The cavity is bounded by a frequency selective reflector and a broadband or frequency selective reflector adapted to be acoustically coupled to a medium supporting ultrasound radiation (i.e. acoustic waves). In one embodiment, the frequency selective reflector is a diffraction grating placed external to the optical fiber. In another embodiment, the frequency selective reflector is a narrowband reflector placed directly in the optical fiber. An acoustic signal enhancing feature which increases sensitivity of the detector is provided by utilizing a reflective membrane having a thickness substantially less than the acoustic wavelength, .lambda., as the broadband optical reflector. The membrane is displaced from a free end of the optical fiber in the cavity and a laser beam exiting therefrom is focused on the membrane with a spot size on the order of the optical fiber core diameter. In this way, the sensing area of the detector is essentially the cross-sectional area of the fiber core which is typically comparable to or less than .lambda..sup.2 even at ultrasound operating frequencies greater than 500 MHz. The reduced element size permits closely spaced optical detectors enabling high density arrays for high frequency imaging.

摘要: A combination lock and particularly an electronic combination lock used on a container that is typically housed within an enclosure having a door which further has a lock and a security switch indicating that the enclosure door has been opened may, be provided with a device to shunt a security signal around the switch associated with the enclosure door to shut off, override, or cancel the security switch signal. The lock may be provided with a shunt relay which effectively connects a signal from a voltage source to a monitor or alarm when the combination lock is opened, thereby signaling the monitor that the enclosure door was opened by an individual having the authorized combination for the combination lock. This indicates that the person opening the enclosure lock has a legitimate authorization to access the locked container within the enclosure and that the opening of the enclosure door may be reasonably ignored. Upon the locking of the combination lock and the closing of the enclosure door a brief alarm signal indicates that the combination lock has been locked and the enclosure closed.

摘要: An ultrasound system determines the relative movement in a first direction (F1) of first matter, such as blood flow, and second matter, such as an artery wall, in a subject under study (S). A beam (B1) of ultrasound waves defining a plurality of beam positions (BP1 and BP2) and beam axes (A1and A2) are moved in scan directions having components parallel to direction F1. First and second blocks of data representing the first and second matter, respectively, are generated. A processor (20) performs an estimation of speckle size on first data to obtain a first result, and performs analysis of the second block of data to obtain a second result. The two results are analyzed to obtain a measure of the relative movement of the first and second matter.

摘要: An ultrasound system (1) acquires data using a gray scale mode of operation and a color flow mode of operation. A transducer (10) generates receive signals in response to echo ultrasound waves received from a subject (S) being studied. A gray scale receive channel (9G) generates gray scale data representing movement of portions of the subject, in particular that of blood flow or contrast agents in blood or tissue. A color flow receive channel (9C) generates color flow data (e.g., either power data or velocity data) also representing movement of portions of the subject. A processor (30) combines the gray scale flow data with the color flow data and displays the result on a display monitor (19) such that moving portions of the subject are displayed with a colored gray scale image.

摘要: A deadbolt lock and a deadbolt which will extend automatically whenever a container is locked by virtue of a rigid portion of the container engaging a trigger element extending from the end face of the bolt and causing the release of an outer bolt portion is shown and described herein. The release of the outer bolt of the bolt assembly allows the outer bolt to project outwardly and to lock the container notwithstanding the fact that the bolt has not been reset by the operator of the lock. The bolt is self-contained and can be substituted into many existing lock mechanisms of the mechanical type and into some of the existing electronic dial combination locks, to provide the auto-locking enhancement.

摘要: The invention, in its various embodiments is a method and apparatus for uniformly orienting shafts which contain an operational feature on one end and which are blunt on the other end. In one aspect of the present invention, a machine feeds the shafts onto a surface containing one or more slots, where the slots are shaped to completely receive a shaft only when the shaft is in a preferred orientation. Shafts which are in the preferred orientation are oriented 180.degree. differently from shafts which are not in the preferred orientation. Shafts which are not in the preferred orientation will be dislodged from the slots and sent down a first exit chute. Shafts which are in the preferred orientation are sent down a second exit chute. The method comprises dispensing the shafts into slots on a surface where the slots are shaped to completely receive a shaft only when the shaft is in a preferred orientation, and selectively removing shafts which are not in the preferred orientation from the slots.
