    摘要: A bearing support member and bearings form a subassembly that can be inserted, in the direction of the axis of the bearings, into a bore of a rocker arm. A support stud can then be passed through an aperture in the rocker arm and a bore in the bearing support member so as to engage the rocker arm and maintain alignment of the rocker arm and bearings. Also disclosed are an inner sleeve and particular configuration of the bearing support member to facilitate manufacture of the bearing support member by powdered metal forming.

    摘要: A bearing support member, mountable about a support stud, has two support arms extending toward side walls of a rocker arm. A bearing cup is rigidly mounted on each respective side wall and extends over the respective arm of the bearing support member, providing an annulus. Rolling members within the annulus permit the rocker arm to freely oscillate rotatably while being constrained axially. The bearing cups may include a keyed shape to limit orientation of the bearing support member. Another aspect of the invention is a rocker arm subassembly having "open" bearing cups.

    摘要: A needle bearing cup includes an inner bearing cup having an inner surface which forms a rolling element raceway and an outer bearing cup disposed about the periphery of the inner bearing cup having a length greater than a length of the inner bearing cup to form a lip. The lip of the outer bearing cup is then formed to retain rolling elements within the inner bearing cup. Preferably, the rolling elements are needle rollers and the inner bearing cup is secured to an outer bearing cup by mechanical lock in the form of a protruding portion extending from the outer bearing cup. The bearing cup may be double drawn with first and second sheet metal blanks forming the inner and outer bearing cups. The lip of the outer bearing cup may be formed through ductile expansion using a punch having an inner diameter portion joined to an outer diameter portion with a step that contacts a top portion of the continuous sidewall portion of the inner bearing cup such that the lip extends about the outer diameter portion of the punch.

    摘要: A guide bearing for mounting unit brake beams, for application to railroad car truck side frame unit brake beam guide brackets, in place of the conventional spring steel wear plate now generally used, comprising a one piece body formed from an ultra high molecular weight polymer or other plastic grades of dry self lubricating characteristics that is of elongate trough configuration defining a web portion and spaced apart side walls shaped and proportioned for force fit seating in the guide bracket, with the inner surfacings of the body side walls being formed to closely receive the brake beam guide lug to be mounted in same, to dispose the brake beam guide lug in substantial coplanar alignment with the desired brake beam movement path radially of the axle wheel to be braked, on actuation of the brakes. The inner surfacings of the body walls have a coefficient of friction with respect to steel of about 0.15, and the outer surfacings of the body side walls are coated with a frictional material, such as natural rubber, having a coefficient of friction of about 1.0 relative to steel, for providing effective force fit and frictional retention mounting of the bearing in the bracket. The body includes at the end of same that is to face the axle wheel to be braked a clip arm for force fit application to the bracket end wall for facilitating the anchoring of the bearing to the bracket.

    摘要: A slide bearing for attachment to U-section formed sheet metal type guide lugs of unit brake beams for mounting the unit brake beams equipped with such guide lugs in the railroad car truck side frame unit brake beam guide brackets, preferably in place of the conventional spring steel wear plate now generally in use comprising a one piece box like body, preferably formed from a polymeric material, such as UHMW polyethylene, of dry self lubricating characteristics that is rectilinear and planar in outline and of U-shaped transverse cross-sectional configuration defining a web portion and spaced apart side walls shaped and proportioned for substantially complemental but slidable seating in the side frame guide bracket in which the guide lug is to be mounted, with the side walls being closed at their end edges by integral end walls and with the inner surfacing of the side walls and the bearing body being formed to closely receive the brake beam guide lug, and with the respective body side walls each recessing in opposed relation a truncated washer. The washers have their center portions welded to the guide lug side walls to secure the bearing to the guide lug, and when the brake beam is mounted in its operating position in the side frame guide brackets adapted to hold same, the guide lug bearings dispose the brake beam guide lugs to which they are applied in substantially coplanar alignment with the desired brake beam movement radially of the axle wheel to be braked, on actuation of the brakes.
