    摘要: In a cellular telecommunications network, geographical restriction is stored for a mobile subscriber in the subscriber's record (100A, 100B, 100C, 100D) in a database at a node of the network, preferably at a home location register [HLR] (24). In accordance with one mode of the invention, the mobile station is permitted to operate only in cells identified in the subscriber's record in the HLR. In accordance with this mode, only applicable cells listed in the subscriber's record are paged when a call is direct to the mobile station, and the mobile station can only originate calls and sustain calls from such cells. In a variation of this mode, calls originated by the mobile station in the applicable cells listed in the subscriber's record can be sustained when the mobile station travels into non-applicable cells. In accordance with another mode known as “soft” restriction, a first (e.g., reduced) tariff is applied to calls originated and received in cells listed in a geographical restriction field of the subscriber's record in the home location register, with calls to and from other cells being permitted at a second (e.g., standard) tariff.

    摘要: A system and method of supporting packet-switched handover of a mobile station (MS) from a GERAN/UTRAN cell to a Generic Access Network (GAN) cell within a GAN. If the MS is within coverage of the GAN cell, the MS registers within the GAN triggering initiation of the packet-switched handover from the GERAN/UTRAN cell to the GAN cell. A preparation phase is then conducted for executing the packet-switched handover. The preparation phase includes identifying the MS context as part of the preparation phase and activating the GA-PSR TC towards the MS. Next, the packet-switched handover is executed, resulting in the MS switching to GAN mode. The MS then begins transferring packets via the GAN cell. The system and method also supports a packet-switched handover from the GAN cell to the GERAN/UTRAN cell.

    摘要: A method and packet data support node in a radio telecommunications network supporting packet data communication between a packet data network and a mobile terminal in radio communication with a first packet control unit. The packet data support node receives a message from the mobile terminal requesting handover to a second packet control unit. A packet flow context detector in the packet data support node detects the number of packet flow contexts currently active in the first packet control unit for supporting the packet data connection. The detector sends a message during handover to the second packet control unit indicating the number of active packet flow contexts. The message is used for activation of a corresponding number of packet flow contexts in the second packet control unit.

    摘要: There is described a method of detecting faults on an uplink control channel, such as an access channel. More specifically, a base station, or other network infrastructure component with a receiver for access requests, is provided with a separate receiver, which is adapted to detect and count access messages. The counted number of access messages is then compared with the number of access messages received by the first receiver. If the number of accesses received by the two receivers are significantly different, this may indicate a fault in the access channel.

When an active mobile station requests a service that requires the use of a network resource not available in the cell handling the ongoing call (or, alternatively, during call set up), the network checks for cells on the higher levels to determine if the required resource is available. If the resource is available in a higher level cell, the call is handed over to that cell and the resource is allocated to the call. The call can be maintained in the higher level cell until the resource is no longer needed, or a “better” cell capable of providing the required resource is found.
