摘要: In a first aspect, the present invention relates to a transponder (TR) comprising: (i) a receiver and associated receiving antenna (ATR) for receiving incoming radar pulses in a first frequency band (F1) at an unknown pulse repetition rate, (ii) means for calculating the pulse repetition rate, (iii) a frequency synthesiser for generating a signal in a second frequency band (F2), (iv) modulation means for modulating the signal generated by the frequency synthesiser so as to encode information into the signal, and (v) a transmitter and associated transmitting antenna (ATT) for transmitting said modulated signal, wherein the transmitted signal is synchronised with the calculated pulse repetition rate of the incoming radar pulses and modulation of the transmitted signal is such that accurate positioning of the transponder (TR) can be determined at a remote receiver (RE). The invention also relates to a transponder receiver comprising: (i) a receiving antenna (ARE) for receiving modulated signals transmitted from a transponder (TR) in accordance with the first aspect, (ii) signal processing means for extracting data and positioning information from said signals and (iii) information output means.

摘要: Transponders, receivers and position determining systems are described. In one embodiment, a transponder includes (i) an on-board receiver and associated receiving antenna for receiving incoming radar pulses in a first frequency band at an unknown pulse repetition rate, (ii) means for calculating the pulse repetition rate, (iii) a frequency synthesizer for generating a signal in a second frequency band, (iv) modulation means for modulating the signal generated by the frequency synthesizer so as to encode information into the signal, and (v) a transmitter and associated transmitting antenna for transmitting said modulated signal, wherein the transmitted signal is synchronized with the calculated pulse repetition rate of the incoming radar pulses, and modulation of the transmitted signal is such that accurate positioning of the transponder can be determined at a remote receiver.

摘要: A ground penetrating radar includes a signal generator, a return signal processor, a gate and an antenna. The signal generator is a dual frequency synthesizer that generates a stepped frequency master signal and a tracking signal offset by an intermediate frequency. The return signal processor is a dual channel quadrature receiver that mixes down a return signal and a sample of the master signal to intermediate frequency using the tracking signal. The signal generator is pulsed by the gate and the return signal is gated at the same frequency. Hollow pyramidal antennas are also described that have an ultrawide band bowtie structure with antenna electronics located within one antenna element. A method of operating the radar is also described.
