    摘要: A wide area distributed storage system checks for erasion of WORM (Write-Once Read-Many) files. A first management server (100a) acquires from second disk equipment (200b) a storage location of a file which corresponds to the file stored on first disk equipment (200a), of which a storage period has expired, and queries a management server (100b) about a storage period of the file whose storage location has been acquired. The queried file management server refers to a file table and indicates existence or non-existence of the file on the second disk equipment and whether the storage period of the file has expired or not. The system avoids unintended deletion of files by querying a plurality of file management servers about whether a file with an expired retention period should be set as a deletable object.

A client is provided with a read request module that sends a file read request containing information corresponding to a file name and an archived date of the file. A WORM archive server is provided with a file identifying module that extracts information corresponding to the file archived date and the file name from the file read request that was received from the client, and identifies the latest archived file with the file name registered before the archived date corresponding to the extracted information from among files recorded in a storage device, and a file sending module that sends the identified data to the client that sent the request.

    摘要: A wide area distributed storage system checks for erasure of WORM (Write-Once Read-Many) files. A first management server acquires a storage location of a second file on a second disk apparatus which corresponds to a first file stored on a first disk apparatus, of which a retention period has expired, and queries a second management server about a retention period of the second file whose storage location has been acquired. The queried second management server refers to a file table and indicates existence or non-existence of the second file on the second disk apparatus and whether the retention period of the second file has expired or not. The system avoids unintended deletion of files by querying a plurality of file management servers about whether a file with an expired retention period should be set as a deletable object.

    摘要: A unified storage system for executing a variety of types of storage control software using a single standardized hardware platform includes multiple storage control modules connected to storage devices for storing data related to input/output (I/O) operations. A first type of storage control software is initially installed and executed on a first storage control module for processing a first type of I/O operations. A management module replaces the first type of storage control software by installing a second type of storage control software onto the first storage control module. When the second type of storage control software is installed and executed, the first storage control module processes a second type of I/O operation, different from the first type of I/O operation. Control of volumes originally accessed by the first storage control module may be transferred to a second storage control module having the first type of storage control software installed.

A VNAS management program on each NAS head includes a VNAS assign program, a failure detect program and a load balance program, that all include a capability for causing remote migration of VNASs on the NAS head in case a VNAS fails, the NAS head fails, or the entire NAS system fails. The VNAS management capability may cause VNAS migration if a NAS head is over loaded or if it is lightly loaded and may be powered down after its VNASs have been transferred.
